Tim Cahill must be the biggest success story of this ilk.Love to see the fume if we started buying players from The Championship.
But the league is rammed full of players who made the step up.

I guess you could argue Lescott since he went on to get a EPL medal.
I considered Lescott, but thought he played for Wolves, knew he missed most of their Premier League season, but didn't realise he missed it all.
Baines and Jags were also bought from technically Championship clubs.
This is my concern. Seamus is absolutely spot-on with what he was saying and has proven himself over the years that he has the right attitude but I can't see him really digging players out who aren't matching his work ethic. My instinct is that he is great at leading by example but not got it in him to really tear a strip off someone when required.I totally agree and I would be disappointed if Ancelloti allowed the training grounds to be an easy place for those who aren't interested in putting a good shift in.
How things have changed in a relatively short time, I read that when SAF was at UTD when a new player came into the club it was the captain who made it clear what was expected of them on and of the pitch, it sounds like quite a formal regimented relationship SAF had with his troops (and a winning one!).
I doubt this system is still in place, but in my opinion, it's how it should be done.
Imagine how Roy Keane would be if he was captain of these no effort, no hopers we have now? This is my concern. Excellent exampleIn the "modern" era yes.
But lets not forget the likes of Southall and his ilk.
True however I was speaking from a purely Everton POV.I guess you could argue Lescott since he went on to get a EPL medal.
The changies door would be off the hinges!Imagine how Roy Keane would be if he was captain of these no effort, no hopers we have now?
Stones, Holgate both from lower leaguesExcellent example

Youth players is one thing, but when was the last time we bought and played a senior (age 24+) player from lower leagues?Stones, Holgate both from lower leagues
And would you rate them above Cahill for Everton?Stones, Holgate both from lower leagues
No I wouldn't. I just thought we were talking about players we bought from the lower leagues. Didn't realise we were grading them. And would you rate them above Cahill for Everton?
I like Holgate a lot but he’s got a bit to go before he reaches Cahill’s level of adulation.
