Try neem oil might help and no problem eating the vegetables afterwards, just orderd some but havnt used it yet so cant say how I works yet.
Thanks for the tip, Edge. I have some neem oil that I’m already using on my rose plants so I will be spraying my kale with it too and hope to have better luck getting rid off those darn mites.

What is it with the peel that helps repeal mites?

So many uses for banana peel. I learned a couple of weeks ago that boiling the peel with some cinnamon and drinking that water helps induce sleep at night.
You can put the peel in a small container covered with water, then top up with a bit of sugar , leave for a few weeks ,its like a super food for plants

I'm assuming it must be the potassium in bananas that plant most love. Im definitely doing this too :)
Best I have tried for food is comfrey plant, they use it in allotments , they put it rain water barrels and let it rot(seen some put metal things in as well, havnt a clue why?)
It stinks by the way but it's good stuff for flowers and veg, think you can get it consentrated on amazon, but the results are miles better than miracle grow ect.
The smell goes after a few minutes after use.

I’ve no idea - but it does work. Also you could consider companion planting, for example plant some mint in and around your kale plants. This also works for eliminating those pesky aphids. Just make sure that you plant the mint in pots or it will take over your veg plot.

I couldn't find the concentrated on amazon but I just read that the fertilizer is pretty easy to make but I have never grown comfrey plants so I may have to look more into it but thank for the tip. I'm used to the stinky smell of fish fertilizer so it can't be worse than that lol

I love my mint plants but they are already going crazy with growth thus my hesitation to grow them on my garden bed with my kale but maybe I can get a container close enough to make a difference. If not I'm hoping the other strategies work.

This year.

Spuds. (First earlies and main crop already planted)

Dwarf French beans, Beetroot, Rainbow Chard, Fennel, garlic, onions and leeks.

Im also having a go with butternut squash this year, but not too hopeful as we don’t have a long enough growing season.

oh and courgettes (zucchini)

Nice selection, good luck with everything. I usually don't grow potatoes, nor butternut squash because I don't have enough space. But in addition to kale, I'm also growing french beans, beets, arugula, mix lettuce, bok choy, zucchini, tomatoes and peppers. I also have a selection of herbs, like oregano, thyme, rosemary, mint, cilantro and parsley.

Oh and basil :) I may also grow some carrots later in the season.

Sounds good Sass. What’s Arugula?

Good advice reference mint in pots as it is prolific within a garden and will run riot, I'm enjoying picking up tips from you guys as I'm not a great Gardener but thought it was important to reiterate that one as I earned a sore back digging the stuff out of my garden a few years ago
