So shortly hes gonna go from 120k a week to around 75k a week, then hes gonna go from 75k a week to nothing, now whilst that seems like an awful lot of money to us, its just a wage to him and he cuts his cloth accordingly, his wife gets her nails done, his kids go to private schools, they have Uni to come, hes gonna retire around 35 and then hes gonna have to live for the next 30 or years on his "savings", he might not get a job when he retires, I mean hes not ex RS, so the job offers are limited, whos to say he has savings? Maybe he made some bad investments, maybe he will in the future.

You all need to stop comparing pro footballers with normal people, they arent normal people.

Correct. Barry will do what's right for number one. Hopefully football reasons will figure in his decision but if he goes to QPR or the Irons for the extra cash then so be it, that's one of the down side of taking players on loan. He did a great, professional job for us last season and, if nothing else, it's bought us some time. Good luck to him whatever he does, unless he goes to the RS in which case he's an evil monster.

To be honest I don't presume to know anything about Barry's financial arrangements its none of my business really, but like I said its his last main contract he'll naturally want to squeeze as much out of it as possible. Of course his family will be a factor in it but footballers move clubs, cities and countries all the time and deal with these situations. It's fine for Martinez to say this decision should be about Barry's footballing career, of course he's going to try and influence in any way possible. But in a profession where divorce and bankruptcy occurs to a high percentage of ex players in the years to follow it's not such as great idea.

To be fair, if any player earning over £100k a week is stupid enough to get themselves bankupt then I doubt an extra £20k a week would make any difference.

I genuinely think that (surprisingly and ironically), a lot of correspondents to this forum are selling Everton short. EFC is on the cusp of something quite exciting you know? I suspect Gareth Barry might have picked up on this.

Sometimes its not as easy and not "being stupid".

In 2007 Friedel launched a non-profit soccer academy in Lorain County, Ohio at a cost of approximately $10,000,000, providing coaching on a full-tuition scholarship basis to youths aged 12 upwards. The academy had difficulty obtaining corporate sponsorship after the 2008 financial crisis and closed in 2011. In January of that year Friedel filed for bankruptcy protection in the United Kingdom as a result of debts arising from the academy

Just found this interview with Gareth in the Telegraph back in January:-

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/sport/fo...eam-of-England-recall-for-2014-World-Cup.html

“Every now and again I've a think about the four fantastic years, winning the league and the FA Cup, playing amongst fantastic players, but I have to keep looking forward. That’s obviously Everton.’’

He’s quite a relaxed individual, spending his time away from football playing golf or being with his family. “I like going down to London for a couple of days but it’s a place where I’d never fancy living; too busy, too lively, people on top of you. I live in the middle of fields. My wife is massively into horses. She events. In terms of looking for houses, we're restricted! It’s school, stables and don’t worry about me!’’

Sounds to me like the Barry's are well settled where they are, I reckon he's more than likely on a golf course somewhere sunny chilling with his mates, all this chat in the papers at the moment is just speculation, I think he will sign.

More quotes from that article:-

“Everton fans don’t just come to watch the football. They are there for Everton, the club. They really believe in the history of the club. It's drilled through their families, through the years, about Everton. When I see them they say: ‘You’d better be signing next season!’ Every time! My answer is the same every time: ‘Hopefully! Hopefully!’ That’s a genuine answer."

“From day one, the manager said: ‘I’m not going to put any pressure on you throughout the season, we’ll have the conversation in the summer, see how the club feel about you, see how you feel about the club and take it from there.’ I’m more than halfway through the season now and it couldn’t have gone any better. It’s going to be a nice conversation to be having come the end of the season.’’
As usual Bluebud, you and I are in total accord

All well and good and I'm sure your maths are correct, but he could well have spent it all you know. Nice house, fancy cars, hobbies, bad business ventures, agents fees, swindled by his agent. Your being a bit simplistic don't you think?

His agent is his best mate, Michael Standing, so i doubt he'd swizz him like.

I find it hard to look towards a future in which Bill Kenwright is Everton chairman.

Until we get "investment" we will always be nearly men.

Whilst were doing "ok " in the league or safe, I think our fans aren't to bothered with kenwright in charge, they won't be any pressure on him ever unless we were staring at relegation or relegated only then would fans revolt. Clap clap clap clap the man who will always hold us back
