Gareth Barry

So what should he be basing it on?
Where he's happiest i'd have thought.Gareth has more than enough money at this point in his career,Is he married, have they kids in schools ? ,does Mrs Barry have a good life outside football ?,they've been settled in the North West for a few years now, would London suit ?.

Might be wrong, but it won't be a financial reason who he chooses to play for.

IMO these factors should all come before money:
Playing time
Playing in Europe(his last chance) Enjoying his football (playing for a team that wins more than loses)
Playing at a high level

If someone offers him more money than we do then they are valuing him higher, this will mean he'll get plenty of playing time. There's a chance he could be offered CL football as well if Arsenal are involved would you advise him to turn that down?

He'll go where the money is greatest, don't believe this nonsense that just because he came here on loan we have any hold over his decision. He owes us nothing and this decision he's got will be based purely on finances and sentiment or anything else won't even be considered, and really that's fair enough. It will likely be his last long term contract and he has to do whats best for himself and his family.

I suspect his family is well financially attended to. So, the real question is : what's best for him?. As RM has alluded to, the next stage in Barry's footballing career, won't be a consideration purely motivated by money. Everton has every chance of retaining him.
And if we don't? c'est la vie

All these people claiming money shouldnt be a factor.

Its the ONLY factor.

He has a short career to earn as much money as possible.

In 20 years time whats gonna pay his bills, an extra 20k a week or European football.

Ive always expected him to sign because it must surely be about playing than money when you have had the contract hes had.

Id happily sign him for 2 years. But if he hold us to ransom let him play for someone else.

At this stage of his career it should be about being happy and playing. Hes just had his best season in years. If he wants to walk away from that then id let him

Thing is, if we want him, and he wants to stay, surely a deal would of been sorted already for him to sign on 1st of July.

As it happens we haven't so either the money were offering isn't great or we don't want him and he was just someone we got in to help us out for a season.

There is an economics concept called marginal utility. To a starving man, a loaf of bread is invaluable. To a wealthy man, it is ....a loaf of bread.

He's enjoying a well deserved vacation at the moment i imagine
his agent will be dealing with offers etc but nothing concrete will happen until he gets back. probably telling agent- you deal with this- get all the offers, and when i get back we can meet and decide

While you're right, I doubt he hasn't already got a few mil in his bank already, so unless he goes Obafemi Martins with it - he should be fine.

he's plenty of money to foot any bills coming his way i'd have thought.120 grand a week for the last few years would do that.

He will surely get a job in football when he's playing days end also.financially he's set for life
