Gareth Barry

I hope we keep Barry but not if his wages effect the signing of younger targets. He worked as part of a successful unit rather than a stand out superstar. McCarthy is the focal point of the midfield with Barry adding positional sense and calmness (apart from the needless pen in the FA Cup).

I am sure we will table a very good offer to him that fits our needs. If he chooses more money elsewhere then so be it. He served us well this season. Other than Arsenal though I could see him being exposed at either West Ham or the like.
Our setup suits his game and he should realise that.

Gareth is not solely interested in money or as some call it "a last pay out" he wants to continue playing at the highest level and there's bound to be interest from other clubs. He's had a fantastic season, hit the ground running (literally) against Chelsea and has been a consistent midfielder throughout the season. He can play at any premiership club and will be considered a coupe if he signs for Everton. Personally I think he will but comments about him only interested in money is a joke and people should know better.

I wouldn't consider him a coupe. I see him more of a people-carrier. :p

I think he'll eventually sign for us. Apparently the hold up is only because if we sign him before 1st July we'd have to pay City £2.5m due to some clause that was in his loan agreement.

Makes sense that such a clause would have existed in case we wanted to buy him in January. Now it's just annoying that we have to wait for any agreement to expire.

I heard a rumour today, he was asked to go on the standby for England and refused it and has asked been asked to join this NY City.

Is this NY City team going to be full of players in their late 30's?

They've went and got David Villa as well and he's not THAT old I don't think, 31 or 32. Just he's never quite been the same since breaking his leg a few years ago. Cracking player before that, I remember when we absurdly got linked with him once Moyes pretty much admitted to the press he'd have a wet dream if we got him.

Set to join in 2015, so 33. Should have said a team full of mid-to-late 30's, really. Not sure how they're going to buy a full team before next year?
