He does have a fair bit of £££. I imagine Barry would want up to 65k. Who is going to pay Frank more than that and give him first team football at a higher level than us?

I think we are a viable option for him if football is his number one priority.
New York City.

That's my thinking.

Lampard probably on more i'd guess, but both on a huge wage, that i'm not sure we could compete with.

Having said that, they currently are earning less that me each month!

LOL

.....suspect they are different types, though. Not exactly like for like on the pitch.

To be honest I wouldn't be keen on us offering him a 3 year deal. Surely we've moved on from the days of having a 36 year old player as one of our top earners? It would seem a bit desperate and doesn't really indicate long term planning in my mind.
I agree with you (my post above yours), but maybe the thinking is that he's fit, rarely injured, and good for another couple of seasons yet.

In the meantime, Ryan Ledson has a couple of years learning his trade from Barry and eventually takes over his position?

We know Martinez has high hopes for Ledson in particular.

3 years on 60k a week?

Surely cant be true. If he signs for more than a year it wouldnt make any sense, but 3 years ?!

Yeah I can see the idea of wanting him around as we nurture Ledson, but there's no telling how long his fitness will last. There's good reason why all top clubs only usually offer 30+ players 1 year deals though. I doubt Barry would be interested in that obviously but 2 years should really be enough, hopefully if this is true the 3rd is an optional extension clause that the club can take up if he's still up to it.

Probably necessary to offer him a multi year deal mate, or he'd go elsewhere. I get what you're on about, but that's usually how these things work. We weren't the only ones after him, and I'd almost guarantee that a multi year deal was the only way to seal it. That being said...if this isn't pyar tosh, then we own him now, and can sell him...at the very least we'll recoup anything we've spent.

The sky is not falling...

I expect other clubs are offering him at least 2 year deals, he'll want as much long term guaranteed security as possible. Like I said above hopefully if this is true the 3rd year is only an optional extra if he still up to it in 2 years.

The thing is, we have seen Distin getting what is essentially a rolling one year deal which I agree with. Then howard gets a 3 year contract taking him to 39 years of age on top whack which is insane.

If Barry gets a 3 year deal it looks to be Kevin Campbell syndrome all over again. The only way this seems plausible is due to ledson stepping up and taking over with barry a frew transfer, wages only stopgap.

Other teams don't seem to be banging on Distin's door though. I think this situation is quite different. I'll go to an old standard...you have to pay a premium for an English player.
