Hopefully besic gets more of a run than gibson. I think gibson will struggle in RM's system he's not mobile enough to cover the sort of ground mccarthy does and he isn't intelligent enough to spot out the dangers that barry does.

Hopefully he's not out too long we are really getting stretched from the EL
Thought Gibson did quite well on Thusday night.

Martinez: he's a trained physio. I'd have to a) question why he plays a 33 year old week in week out when he has good options on the bench to give him a rest and b ) why he thought it a good idea rushing him back into the team after picking up a heavy knock three days ago.

gibson's performance today had me a tad more worried about this injury, only one game i suppose. think mccarthy and besic partnership would be great, wouldn't give the oppositiona second's rest.

Looked rough early on; got his passing boots on by the second half - though I'd still have played Besic.

I would be inclined to say that he does not rate the other options on the bench as highly as Barry, either individually or what he offers to the team.

Regardless of his age, he is often the proverbial linchpin to our tactics. Maybe Martinez doesn't think Besic is as composed.

Because I think he values him that much as cover for McCarthy's demon wheels.

Because he's vital to how we play. When Gibson played in th cup against swansea and Barry didn't we looked awful.

It's a shame because recently Barry and McCarthy where back to their best. Still it might keep him fresh for the end of the season and give Besic a chance.

Considering he starts Barry every single game including midweek games and only yesterday he was referring to Barry as the best defensive midfielder in the league I would be inclined to believe that too.

No, neither do I at the moment. But he surely has to rotate in a scenario where Barry was being faced with 2 games in four days and was carrying a knock.
Hindsight... If he had came through ninety minutes without an injury, and the result was different because of this, it wouldn't have been an issue.

Furthermore, the tackle without a previous injury may have caused similar injury, so some may just say it is unlucky.

Martinez obviously felt it was a worthwhile risk. Personally, it was the wrong option today but at least we will get to see Besic or Gibson now.

barry is vital in our side, besic hasnt the same quality or intelligence as Barry. Gibson is a high calorie food lover and still isn't at peak condition ( I'm dissapointed my nutritional advice I gave him has obviously become a chore)

Ok, Barry would not play if not fit enough, this is a fact. if you have not experienced of the regulations that the everton fc staff put players in before each match, then any opinion you have of players fitness levels or moron talk of a player "rushed" are ignorant and conjecture. Please don't Make fanciful claims. You have no experience.

You could imagine some Neanderthal old school manager taking those decisions....a physio though...

Well, he also had Ross in a fairly iffy spot so that was more need for good positional sense...I'd have gone out with a slightly more attacking shape in midfield myself; put McCarthy as single holding and moved the Barry spot up and gave it to Besic but it's all ifs and buts.

We're lucky we have the international break to soak up two weeks of McCarthy's recovery period and having the insurance of deep reserves of CMs.

A more judicious dosing of the talent we have in that area might have prevented both Barry and McCarthy getting crocked.

I expect a manager of his experience and training to get that balance right.

Interesting.
