I always thought he was the smartest player on the pitch when he played for us the last few years. Clearly not the fastest but a true professional, and always seemed to give his all.

I guess we do have a lot of depth at midfield and he wants to start. Would've been nice to see him break Giggs' record in blue.

Very clever player, knew how to break the other teams rhythm and calm things down. Knew when to take a yellow card too.

gutting. Koeman really fancied him but i suppose the writing was on the wall when schneiderlin came in because barry's not the type of player to go out on a whimper being a bit part player, good luck to him.

Does concern me how we don't have any genuine backups for schneiderlin though, loads of defensive minded centre mids, but no actual anchors who sit deep and mop up. Would have preferred mccarthy to go for £20m myself because he'll be decreasing in value all the time. Surely won't be selling him now though?

Hope he breaks Giggs appearance record and sets a new one that never gets beaten. Been a top player over the years and his ability to turn himself from a decent attacking midfielder early in his career to a dependable holding midfielder is something other young English players should look at. We see foreigners do this loads but over here we have only really had Giggs and Barry do it successfully in my memory. Model pro and if he ever wanted to get into coaching i'd like to think we would have him back and help him despite only being here a short time.

Maybe you should research before posting, we dont have to pay for Iceland or any of the players we have signed upfront. We pay over the length of the contract, we have no need to touch any external funds.

Barry is old school. Tough, intelligent player who can sum up situations and pick the best option from his experience. Unfortunately his legs gave out and the yellow cards piled up but I've seldom seen a better left foot through pass to front men.
