Good luck to him if he is leaving, been a really good player for us since he came here. One of them players you don't appreciate how good they are until they play for you
Class act on and off the pitch.

He clearly loves to play so can understand if he is concerned he might not get enough game time and a Pulis side will probably suit him as well.

If he goes we'll have only Schneiderlin who can receive balls deep and reliably pick passes to get us up the pitch.
You saw how better we were 2nd half Saturday when he started to get time on the ball as they couldn't mark him out without 3 centre backs behind him.
Barry goes then injury or suspension to Morgs and we lose that option and have to change game plan.
Hope he stays.

If he goes, he deserves full respect from us. been a good servant.
Definitely gets a clap from me if he comes back to Goodison with another team.

He can indeed pass, but he's so slow and easily exposed on defense that to me, he's too much of an on field liability to make up for any on field leadership. I also hate that Ronnie is still tempted to use him. Sell ASAP. Move the salary.

For certain high tempo games I agree.
For games where teams sit back and with the energy of Gana, Davies & Klaasen around I think it's essential to have someone who can receive it deep and dictate play.
That's Morgan, Besic (if he can stay fit for 5 minutes) and Barry.
If he goes he'll need replacing imo and I'd prefer we focus elsewhere this season.

I don't think we should be letting him go, but if he wants to go for first team football then it's hard to deny him it.

If he goes then it wouldn't be wise to sell McCarthy.

Defo agree with the first part of your post, but Barry and McCarthy are massively different players.

One's got a superb football brain, very talented but has a fat ( though quite sexy ) arse, whereas the other one's high energy, ginger and lacks a bit of composure. They've both got something to offer, but they're poles apart.

More generally, anyone who doesn't appreciate what Barry still offers is either a WUM or is thick, and is quite likely both.

This is a difficult one, do you keep a player who has given of his best to you just in case you may need him when you know he wants to play. The years have caught up with him, this season will probably be his last, I for one would like to see him play out his time getting a game, I wouldn't like him to sit on the bench for a season and then retire.
However there may just be enough games in Everton's season to get him enough playing time.

I just think with the amount of players we still need to get that we shouldn't be getting rid of players just because they're not first choice. We have Gueye, Schneiderlin, McCarthy, Barry and Davies for central midfield. We can only afford to lose one if we're to compete in all competitions this season, unless we bring someone else in.

It's fair enough from Gareth. He's gone in, caught someone late, put his hands up in the air and his feet together, and accepted the fact he's given away a freekick in a dangerous area.

McCarthy's in the Ireland squad mate, which, sadly, probably means we won't see him this side of Christmas.

You're right though, if Barry wants to leave to get more regular footie than he'd get here, then we shouldn't stand in his way, but I'd be really sad to see him go.

I feel privileged to have seen Barry play week in week out, and now understand what a couple of Citeh fans meant when I chatted with them just after he signed for us.The lad's boss.

That derrière alone has probably blocked more shots/players than half the midfielders in the league - it is a strategic weapon that I for one will be very sad to see leave our club...
