George Green: In the Spotlight

He's not a Gazza or a Rooney, who were both playing first team football at his age. I think the comparison comes from his physicality and the area of the pitch he plays more than his ability.

He's a tidy, strong player with good technique. As Martinez has said, he needs to find a position and make it his own. Doesn't look to have enough pace to make much impression on the wings, while he's not really a CM or a forward either. The 'second striker' or 'number 10' role might suit him, but that often tends to be a role adapted into a system for a specific player rather than a defined position at youth level (it seems).

He also has an hilariously broad Yorkshire accent.

A Rodwell type player with a bit more drive and not afraid to get stuck In would be excellent and be a great addition to midfield -- actually perfect next to McCarthy and Barkley.

Sounds like Green is a bit stuck in that he's got to find the right position. Pienaar doesnt have any pace though so why cant Green take over from him?

Barkley never played No.10 for the ressies, he always played as a No.8 CM type. Baxter always prefered there over Barkley.

Green looks like a No.10 to me. A different style No.10 to Barkley but a No.10 non the less. Barkley can play either role IMO and long term will probably be a No.8 who dictates games from deeper.

Never seen this ledson kid but he's spoke of very highly as are a few others.

Wouldn't it be brilliant to have 4-5 youngsters all come thru at once, like utd had all those years ago.

I am not as convinced on him as others. I prefer Ledson. Green doesn't seem to have the speed to play the premier league yet. And given he is 18, hasn't played for the reserves that much, never mind done so much for them. Ledson and even Williams have played for the reserves a lot more often, even though they are younger

This is something I noticed when watching the u18s against Brighton. Doesn't seem to have stopped Osman's Everton career! Hopefully he would spend the majority of his career in a position that suites him, unlike Ossie stuck out on the wing exposed for pace.

I may be massively overestimating some, but I'd expect, genuinely, 4 or 5 of them the u21s to play first team football regularly with us within a year or two.

I agree with those saying maybe 4/5 could come through and I wrote that in the thread I atarted about centre midfielders.

Not sure if Stones or Garbutt could be included in a list but I'd allow it as they didn't come straight into the first team.

1--Barkley --Already a first choice
2--Stones -- Could be first choice sometime next season
3--Browning -- Martinez said he expects him to make the 1st team
4--Green -- Martinez said he just has to find his true position
5-- Garbutt --Bit like Ruddy in that theres no space for him BUT he's highly rated and gets great reviews when on loan. I hope Martinez can make some room for him/Ovideo and of course Baines in the squad on the left side.

6--Lundstram -- Surely after playing many years with barkley must have a great understanding with him. Also, internationally he was singled out for praise in the youth world cup I think

7--Ledson-- Seems literally everyone is raving about him.

Theres also another 4or5 players who could very well step up... EXCITING! !!

Every club massively overrate their own young talent. Look at any forum and you'll see 4-5 of their youth prospects in the team in 3 years time thread. Of whom none usually make it.

The results we are getting at youth level show we have some very gifted teams. However sometimes you can have a great team but no stand out players, sometimes an individual (Rooney's generation) can carry a team and sometimes you do get a team with 4-5 decent players (Dunne, Ball, Osman, Hibbert, Jeffers, Cadamateri team)

If you'd asked 4 years ago I'd have said Hallam Hope was nailed on to be a Premier League player. He played like Shearer in youth teams and was top scorer in every tournament he was in. Now I think he'll be lucky to get a career as a pro. Same with Baxter - the most gifted youth player - who is now decent enough in League 1.

Other than the serious standout talents like Rooney who are so far ahead of their peers then most of the time it comes down who gets an opportunity and takes it. For example Millwall had financial troubles, threw in a lot of their young players who weren't massively highly rated and from that generation we had 4-5 players who went on to have very good top flight careers (Cahill, Reid, Neill and quite a few I've forgotten)

Whats happened to Hope? He and Long are both capped at youth level so should have something about them...

Evertonians are usually pessimistic and id say that JPK and Baxter were both thought of very highly but no-obe was talking about them as future stars. Most of the guys predicted to come through seem like being good enough as squad players although Green and Ledson seem to be the exceptions.

Would have liked to see another Stones type signing in Jan but am hoping for Martinez to add some wonderkids who can slot straight into the eleven.

Not sure where this Baxter and JPK wonder kid tags come from tbh. Although you heard they were promising players, like Hope and a few others currently I wouldn't say they were spoke about in the same regards as Say your Rooney, rodwell's and Barkley's.

There's usually promising to very good prospects like Duffy, Hope, Mcallany, Garbutt where your talking "if's and maybe's....

Then your Green and Ledsons's when your talking "when's and how goods"
