Gerard Deulofeu - Once a Blue, always a Blue

Been saying it since he played against Fulham in the CC but this lad is pure gold. On another day we would have been 5-0 up by ht and he would have bagged a hat trick that day. Martinez has brought him on lovely and that was great man management yesterday the way he spoke about him in training this week and that was his thinking behind picking him. Football, 30% skill and 70% mental and Martinez is bang on the money when it comes to making the players believe

The lad defo doesnt lack confidence thats for sure mate, personally on the right doesnt look his best position he seems far more dangerous when cutting in on his right from the left, although the times he was central yesterday he looked bloody dangerous as hell, thought it was noticable that the last 30 mins the defenders just started either backing off him big time or blatantly trying to foul him

You sure mate? I rated him always higher when he was at the right, when he's playing as a left wing I find Deulo more as a one trick pony.

When he was at Barcelona B and Juvenil A he was a right winger, and I find it more dangerous at that position.

He's a beast in almost every position, but I find it even better when he's on the right.

I get the impression Lukaku would like to wring his neck at times :), The amount of times i've seen Romelu fume waiting for a cross or pass haha. Great to watch Duelofeu though must admit, I am a fan and surely with all the wealth and talent at their disposal, they wont miss one.

Totally agree mate, I think he definitely looks a lot more dangerous playing on the right hand side. The boy has some balance which is very messi like. Could have easily gone down twice yesterday but stayed on his feet. He is a top player and will be world class in a few years I am absolutely certain of it. Would be over the moon if we had in on loan again next season.

think the thing with him on the right mate is long term its prob gonna be his best position but atm he's still not the finished article and makes the wrong choices, hes had a fair few efforts from ridiculous angles when the better option was a pull back into the centre, all said and done though thats down to experience, maybe he is a one trick pony on the left but its a dangerous one that scares the bejesus out of the defenders hes running at

a rare thing to say about a young spanish player but honestly he should have went down on two occasions yesterday - one for a blatant pen the other a free kick on the very edge of the box, saying that it was refreshing to see him not take the easy option

Gerard is like Messi. He doesn't go down. I remember a few times last year at Barça B when he was blatantly fouled in the area, but he refused to go down. You applaud him for not going down, but we could have won more games last year if he liked to go down.

Also, his goalrecord will improve. He has an end product, last year he didn't miss many 1vs1 against the goalkeeper. He scored a goal every 88 min and scored or assisted every 79 min, so he will do better.

PD: At Barça B and Juvenil A he always played with a fake 9, so he was the real goalscorer. Now he has to feed the real 9.

hahaha. Yeah, Lukaku has been mad a lot of times at him. But Gerard hasn't the mentality of a passing winger, he plays like a striker. He shoots a lot and he likes to score. He has to improve there, he should have passed yesterday.

a shame about Bojan though as he had all the talent in the world and seemd from afar to be a real nice lad too, for what its worth i can see if hes handled right delefou at 22 being a major star for you lot and tearing up that league/europe

Definitely a shame and was always pretty professional and liked by the squad/coaches...Although Pep did try to get him to play for the B team the year before he took over the 1st team and Krkic refused, not sure that decision benefitted the player in the long run as evidenced by how well Guardiola brought along youngsters

Bojan never had the pace, aggression, flair or cockiness that Gerard does...My prediction before the end of his stint at Barcelona would be that he'd move back to the midfield as he lacked the requisite skills to play as a forward on the biggest stage...He was a legend in youth leagues, scoring goals at will but more of a team player...He's only 23 still and has looked promising for De Boer at Ajax - I hope he is able to rejuvenate his career because there's certainly quality there

There's a different mentality to Deulofeu who relishes dribbling and running at defenders as well as scoring...He was bullied off the ball a bit like Bojan was when he started out with the B team at 17 but he quickly adjusted and got stronger...Now, you rarely see him bullied off the ball

I've also enjoyed the few chances him & Barkley have had together as they seem to link up very well, perhaps we'll enjoy more of that going forward

Loved this about him yesterday, so refreshing and makes me enjoy watching football - seeing a player who wants to ride the tackles and bury the ball in the net himself. So sick of the flops to the floor instead of trying to carry on. Be gutted when the loan is up.

top post that mate, and didnt realise that about bojan refusing to play for the b team, any player not listening to peps advice imo shows a fundamental flaw, the guys a legend, as ive said delefou does remind me of a young ronaldo, and with the same type of attitude about him as well, bodes very well for his future

who knows one day you may get to see them at the nou camp togetehr in the barca team, id rather if barkley ever did go he went to a genuine team rather than some sheikh driven oil team

At least we have this kid to call our own.

I'm already sad that Deulofeu will eventually leave.

Anyway, I'm enjoying your input to this thread, mate.

Yeah, in hindsight perhaps Krkic would do things differently...Of course, at the time, Pep was just coming in to take over the B team and while a club legend, no one knew what sort of coach he'd become...I think for a young player who gets promoted to play with Leo et al, it's probably tough to go backwards in their minds - failing to see the bigger picture perhaps...A big reason why young players are brought along differently since

True true on the CR comparisons, Deulo has had them since he was 13/14...There's even an amusing clip of him playing for the youth Spanish NT whereby he stood still with his hands on his hips complaining to the referee about being fouled while the opposition went onto score after dispossessing him - classic CR too

My relatively limited knowledge of Everton leads me to believe it'll be tough to hold onto talents like Barkley but I've read he's a local lad and perhaps with Roberto they will usher in a new era for the club and that he will be a focal point of it...I think he's a terrific talent, that's clear...Shame about Lukalu too because he fits in the scheme of things as well...But Martinez has started out brilliantly in reshaping the club so you never know I guess

My life is full atm, even more so with all my Barcelona viewing but I dedicate viewing for Everton, obviously due to Gerard but I'm enjoying their play very much...Lot to be excited about

Qatari money is killing the game, wish I could get it off our kits too (n)
