Gerard Deulofeu - Once a Blue, always a Blue

Strictly speaking it might not be impossible for Barça to recall him early, but it won't happen. Deulofeu even said himself the other day that he's 'here for a year'. Same with Lukaku, there's no 'anytime recall' option on these loans

The only reason we sent him out on loan in the first place is because Tito was about as far away from Barca's policy on youth development as possible. Young players were benched every single game, and not a single youngster even got a 5 minute debut. Deulofeu jumped ship, really, as opposed to taking Tito's offer of switching between the B and senior teams the way Thiago did in 2010/11(?). Considering Martino has a much more personal relationship with the youth (Minus Montoya lol) I don't think Gerard would have gone out on loan in the first place.

I've been thinking, though. Do you see Everton as a place where someone like Sergi Samper could go on loan? How about Grimaldo? Eusobio is a cancer to our teenage prospects and I'd much rather see them go on loan than have to survive that man...

Well, I agree that Tito set back our youth policy at the club considerably but we also don't know how much Rosell et al had to do with that either...Even under Pep, I wonder if Deulofeu would be playing with the first team - truth is, I think he'd have him sit at B another season while trying to get as much as he can from Cuenca & Tello

Eusebio is a nightmare and is responsible for the B team where youth talents are going to die atm...Grimaldo has seen his ascendency at the club come to a screeching halt, for the first time, under Eusebio - he barely looks the same player we all enjoyed up until his promotion...Truth is, I thought he'd become the youngest defender ever promoted to the 1st team - he was that good...Now, I'm not sure...But if he were to go on a loan, he'd have to stay in Spain, IMO - say Valencia, Sevilla, Racing etc...Going to England isn't the ideal solution for many of our youth players, IMO...The fact that Deulo did was a shock to me, tbh, but I imagine Roberto had everything to do with it

Samper would be interesting but I think the club values him too personally to send him off - he's about as Barcelona as they get...And seeing how many of his teammates throughout the years have been poached by Arsenal, don't think the club would want him anywhere near the Premiership...or perhaps just not near Wenger

My wording has just been off. Every time I talk about bringing him back after one year with other Cules we think of not extending the loan as recalling him. I certainly wouldn't want us to bring him back before the end of the BPL season, especially if he starts getting more playing time.

aaaaaahhh - my bad.

Long time Barca fan here just casually scrolling through this thread in amusement when I came across this load of... what's the English word for it? Rubbish?

Saying we have too many players at forward is one common way of bending the truth near the point of straight lying. Neymar doesn't play on the RW, he plays on the LW. Their positions do not cross. Messi does not play on the RW, he plays CF/False-9. Again, their positions do not cross. Pedro can play on either side when needed but he's so incredibly ineffective that his playtime has plummeted to the point of him wanting to quit the club. Tello also doesn't play RW, he plays on the LW, and is also leaving due to a lack of playing time, as he has to compete with Neymar. Adama plays on either side, but just three months ago he was playing in the UEFA Youth League with our U19 squad. He has another 4-5 years of B team football left until he even gets promotion to the first team, as he's 17 years old and isn't rated nearly as highly as Deulofeu to get an accelerated development.

And I hate to break it to you, but Martino doesn't plan on extending Gerard's loan. The part I've bolded, underlined, etc is horse dung, by the way. Deulofeu has been highly rated and anticipated at this club since he was 9 years old. He's the best thing to come from La Masia since Messi himself, and you suggesting our young players not being welcomed by the senior players actually makes me quite furious. You don't have the slightest clue what you're talking about and seeing you're a royal only makes me understand it even further. Be mad that Espanyol will never amount to anything, and have fun fighting off relegation another year.

I dunno who Gary is, but I'm not Spanish, I'm Catalan-American.

That comment was made more out of anger than personally knowing anything. I have heard many reports that we're calling him back though.

So you're American then lad. So you're a glory hunting American SOCCER fan. How can anyone take your opinion seriously?

How Pep would have handled him would have been interesting. Alexis and Pedro were so off form it was actually funny watching them miss in front of goal (Cordoba), but infuriating in other cases (Milan, PSG, Madrid). Gerard might have gotten a rotation spot with the aforementioned duo being shipped off, along with Pique.

I don't think we should blame Eusobio for Grimaldo, though. Keep in mind, even Deulofeu seemed off when he first started. A lot of Grimaldo's time went to waste with injury, but he's back now, so we should see him back to his best soon. It's interesting how Dongou always plays well with the senior squad while being ineffective with the B team. Maybe Grimaldo is the same way. Notice how our B team dominated last week when Eusobio wasn't there? Haha

Hey, if they sent out Deulofeu, I'm wouldn't be surprised at anything. Deulofeu is about as catalan a name as you can get, but Samper is actually born and raised in Barcelona. He'd laugh in Wenger's face. It'd do him well while he waits on more opening in our midfield. I've been thinking he'd a much more like and like replacement of Xavi than a CDM, though, so maybe we should bring him up here to fill the reserved CM role Xavi has?

meh, I knew I liked Athletic Bilbao better. Atletico Madrid are an exceptional club too. I believe they will win La Liga this year. Messi is pure gash, Ronaldo and Costa have made him look amateur injury or not. Hala Madrid.

Lol Kidding guys

have we had this yet?

the kid is like sh!t on a stick when he's got the ball at his feet. Its almost messi-like how he ghosts through players, as opposed to tricking his way past like ronaldo. As he continues to integrate into our squad he'll get better & better. He could be one of the best creative attacking players in the league for us 2nd half of the season
