Gerard Deulofeu - Once a Blue, always a Blue

Exactly. Although the marina idea was properly criticized when it first came out.

BTW, MD, Barcelona's most accurate paper on Barcelona related news (Typically only prints club matters that the board signs off on) says that the club counts on Deulofeu for the 2014-2015 season with the 1st team

Can we have someone else next season then?

Barca boss Tata says he has not decided if Deulofeu will be allowed to spend another season at #EFC Tata:"It's not time to think about that"

There is, Freixa already confirmed it to the press yesterday as one of the two options - Stay & remodel or build new on Diagonal...Rosell is a corporate whore, for me, and so I suspect he wants the new build as there is always more ways to pad the accounts...Of course, if Spain has learned anything in this building recession, it's that new construction isn't smart, it's just a way for some businesses to make money at the expense of others

I can't imagine the club members voting for new construction (Members would have to agree on either project) but part of Rosell's plan, IMO, is to have a feasibility study done on both projects and I think he's going to ensure the new construction plan looks more attractive etc....At one point I recall a project being mentioned near the marina which would really be a disaster, IMO

We'll see, supposedly a decision and vote will be happening within the next few months
That sounds disturbingly familiar

Let's be honest mate. As boss as he is, he's definitely not ready for Barcelona.

I would and have been saying the same but I'm beginning to think that the positive aspects of his game are needed as Barcelona suffers from too much impotence in front of goal when Messi is not available...A little more ego in front of goal from another attacker might be what is needed and I have felt Deulofeu will need to work not only on the defensive side of the ball (Tracking back, for starters) but doing more than just trying to beat his marker for pace and shooting

Will he develop that game here any better than he would at Barcelona?...Maybe, maybe not...I think we'll see as the season progresses and how much Martinez ends up using him...I didn't like how infrequently he has been used thus far but now seeing the wisdom of Roberto's plan more...Of course, now Roberto has a fired up youngster even more anxious to play and if he sits for long periods how will that affect his play once he's unleashed?...Will he play within the system or feel obliged to shoot at will

It's all conjecture of course, we'll have to see how he does the rest of the way but my experience following the player is that once he finds his groove he will be a monster on the pitch and that will only expedite his return, I feel

Gerard Deulofeu insists he is not thinking about his long-term future beyond this season.
The Everton loanee is starting to make a big impression at Goodison Park, after joining in the summer on a season-long loan from Barcelona.
Deulofeu has not been rushed into action by manager Roberto Martinez, who has predicted the best of him will come in the second half of the season.
But, following his stunning equaliser at Arsenal at the weekend, there is already talk that Everton could look to extend Deulofeu's loan by an additional 12 months.
However, the 19-year-old winger says he is only thinking about playing well for Everton this season.
"Now I am in Everton and after that I am a Barcelona player. My objective is to enjoy this experience and the future will arrive in that moment and for now I am happy in the Premier League," he told Catalan radio station RAC 1.
Asked about the prospect of staying for longer at Goodison Park, he added: "Those are only rumours, at the end of the season Barcelona will decide."
That sentiment was confirmed by Barcelona boss Gerardo Martino at his press conference before their Champions League clash with Celtic on Wednesday, although he admitted to being impressed by the teenager's recent performances.
Martino said: "He is showing the quality he has as a footballer and Barcelona obviously have an obligation to keep an eye on those players that are loaned out.
"If you ask me do I think he is a great player I would say yes, but there is no decision yet with respect to the players on loan (for next season.)"
Deulofeu has played 11 times in the league for Everton so far, and has been limited to just one start.
But he is happy with how Martinez is guiding him, saying: "That does not surprise me. I have spoken with the coach and Roberto has explained his intentions with me.
"I am loaned here and it is difficult to get a place in the starting XI because I am young and with many things to learn.
"The coach offers a lot confidence to me and this is a wonderful."

There is parts of his game that at Barcelona he won't get away with. Sometimes the ball is intercepted from him far too easily. Albeit when his back is turned to goal. When he's on the front foot he is really good. The weighting of his pass sometimes isn't brilliant. I think you may recall him in the summer. But I think he could do with another 18months before stepping into the first 11 of Barcelona. He is only 19

Cuenca is a wide attacking player, probably a better dribbler than Deulofeu but lacks his pace...Hard worker, very talented...I saw big things with him at the club but two successive injuries have stunted his development/integration...He's now at risk of never really making it at the club but he could do very well at many other clubs

Dongou is prized, like Deulofeu, so it's harder to see him going out on loan as loans isn't really the way the club typically operates...Gerard simply exceeded expectations in Segunda and there was no more he could do with the B team to show his quality & readiness for the 1st team...Jean Marie, on the other hand, is a year younger and can still offer more with the B team....Plus, he's a gem from the Samuel Eto'O foundation from Cameroon and has spent all of his formative years at the club and remains a kid in many ways...Deulofeu seemed more ready to go to a new country, culture etc. than maybe Dongou...Of course, Eusebio is a terrible coach there and no one knows whether he is actually capable of developing 1st team talent for the club...Tata also has shown a willingness to use Jean Marie so perhaps he will go back & forth between the 1st team & B side a bit like Deulofeu did last season

Suarez was already playing before with City in their youth squad which may or may not make a loan back to the Premiership an option - suppose it depends both on the player & club but I imagine he wants a shot with the 1st team rather than a return ticket

Cuenca is a great option, IMO, but depends on what happens with his knee rehab in the coming month or so

I would have to disagree about Cuenca. He is quite a normal winger/wide player. He is not really exceptional at anything. The only time he has shown some form was when he came in under Pep and I really think that team was so good that it was hard for him to fail. I don't see a future at Barca or Everton for this kid.

Hoping against hope that the vote doesn't go through for a new stadium. Camp Nou might have a crap atmosphere but its an amazing stadium.

Will you be there for the Celtic game tomorrow night? I can't wait. Then Villarreal on Saturday before I head back to Ireland for Xmas.

I agree. When I've seen Cuenca I just think he is average and won't have a future in Barca but I could be biased

Barca vs Villareal should be a cracker. Wouldn't right Villareal out to be honest.

He's doing great and brave. Roberto Martínez is helping him in a good way; I think that this coach has the ability to make him improving. The future is the future; nobody knows, but Barça now has an ''end era'' and they'll change many things. They have at forward too many players: Messi, Neymar, Alexis, Pedro, Tello, and now Adama; furthermore they want a ''killer''. Deulofeu is a very young player with a huge potential. That means that he needs to play often, because is necessary for his right development. Within this scene can be possible another loan or something similar. Another thing is that many Barça fans prefer players like Neymar rather than him. I find this unfair, because Neymar has done nothing in european football, but he's a ''football celebrity'' and Deulo isn't. Actually some young players that come from La Masia are not welcomed by players like Messi. Lionel Messi is a huge player, but he has so many attitudes that are very negative. I see him very happy at this moment and that's the important fact.

Long time Barca fan here just casually scrolling through this thread in amusement when I came across this load of... what's the English word for it? Rubbish?

Saying we have too many players at forward is one common way of bending the truth near the point of straight lying. Neymar doesn't play on the RW, he plays on the LW. Their positions do not cross. Messi does not play on the RW, he plays CF/False-9. Again, their positions do not cross. Pedro can play on either side when needed but he's so incredibly ineffective that his playtime has plummeted to the point of him wanting to quit the club. Tello also doesn't play RW, he plays on the LW, and is also leaving due to a lack of playing time, as he has to compete with Neymar. Adama plays on either side, but just three months ago he was playing in the UEFA Youth League with our U19 squad. He has another 4-5 years of B team football left until he even gets promotion to the first team, as he's 17 years old and isn't rated nearly as highly as Deulofeu to get an accelerated development.

And I hate to break it to you, but Martino doesn't plan on extending Gerard's loan. The part I've bolded, underlined, etc is horse dung, by the way. Deulofeu has been highly rated and anticipated at this club since he was 9 years old. He's the best thing to come from La Masia since Messi himself, and you suggesting our young players not being welcomed by the senior players actually makes me quite furious. You don't have the slightest clue what you're talking about and seeing you're a royal only makes me understand it even further. Be mad that Espanyol will never amount to anything, and have fun fighting off relegation another year.
