Gerard Deulofeu - Once a Blue, always a Blue

There is parts of his game that at Barcelona he won't get away with. Sometimes the ball is intercepted from him far too easily. Albeit when his back is turned to goal. When he's on the front foot he is really good. The weighting of his pass sometimes isn't brilliant. I think you may recall him in the summer. But I think he could do with another 18months before stepping into the first 11 of Barcelona. He is only 19

Definitely...On many levels, he's not ready for the first team but yet on a few other levels, he already is...The question will be whether to wean him onto the team's play from within where perhaps his development would be accelerated along with profiting from the golazos here & there...but there would be growing pains there too

I remember in the United match now that it was Mirallas who looked to give him a bit of a scolding for not squaring the ball late (Which was the smart play) rather than go for goal...His play sort of stuttered after that, I imagine he might fear trying anything again if Leo was yelling at him

It's unchartered territory for the club in truth since loaning isn't typically part of their development plans since many loanees never actually return...I was only recently leaning towards him staying a 2nd season but there's too much hype on him already...and if he continues to progress as a player as I think he will, I don't see how the club won't recall him to at least tour then go from there

Long time Barca fan here just casually scrolling through this thread in amusement when I came across this load of... what's the English word for it? Rubbish?

Saying we have too many players at forward is one common way of bending the truth near the point of straight lying. Neymar doesn't play on the RW, he plays on the LW. Their positions do not cross. Messi does not play on the RW, he plays CF/False-9. Again, their positions do not cross. Pedro can play on either side when needed but he's so incredibly ineffective that his playtime has plummeted to the point of him wanting to quit the club. Tello also doesn't play RW, he plays on the LW, and is also leaving due to a lack of playing time, as he has to compete with Neymar. Adama plays on either side, but just three months ago he was playing in the UEFA Youth League with our U19 squad. He has another 4-5 years of B team football left until he even gets promotion to the first team, as he's 17 years old and isn't rated nearly as highly as Deulofeu to get an accelerated development.

And I hate to break it to you, but Martino doesn't plan on extending Gerard's loan. The part I've bolded, underlined, etc is horse dung, by the way. Deulofeu has been highly rated and anticipated at this club since he was 9 years old. He's the best thing to come from La Masia since Messi himself, and you suggesting our young players not being welcomed by the senior players actually makes me quite furious. You don't have the slightest clue what you're talking about and seeing you're a royal only makes me understand it even further. Be mad that Espanyol will never amount to anything, and have fun fighting off relegation another year.

You aren't Spanish, you are Gary from Bolton

Brilliant post, nice we have somebody on the forum who has Martino's ear.

I dunno who Gary is, but I'm not Spanish, I'm Catalan-American.

That comment was made more out of anger than personally knowing anything. I have heard many reports that we're calling him back though.
Love to see some links if you could post them.

I'm 99% sure Deulofeu won't be 'recalled' from his loan. He'll either leave after our last game of this season (most likely) or stay another year.

Just wish he would change his goal celebration. The faux gun fire thing is lame, and arguably insensitive. I know Timmy had his thing, so I understand its ok to have a "thing", but he needs to move on, imo.

Seriously? Its awesome.

The only reason we sent him out on loan in the first place is because Tito was about as far away from Barca's policy on youth development as possible. Young players were benched every single game, and not a single youngster even got a 5 minute debut. Deulofeu jumped ship, really, as opposed to taking Tito's offer of switching between the B and senior teams the way Thiago did in 2010/11(?). Considering Martino has a much more personal relationship with the youth (Minus Montoya lol) I don't think Gerard would have gone out on loan in the first place.

I've been thinking, though. Do you see Everton as a place where someone like Sergi Samper could go on loan? How about Grimaldo? Eusobio is a cancer to our teenage prospects and I'd much rather see them go on loan than have to survive that man...

I saw one on Barca's site, but that was after the Stoke game and I don't have it anymore. The rest are from tweets from Barcastuff and conversations held with Jason Pettigrove, who really does have connections inside Barca's system.

Mate, this is what I think. You're a bit of a d1ck. Coming onto our forum and ****ging people off who are generally very complementary about Barcelona and are just speculating about players based on what we have seen or read is just not on. Martinez himself has said there is a possibility of a second season depending on what Barca think and obviously what the player wants.

Just go away and keep w@nking over neymar, even though he isn't fit to lace either of Messi's or Ronaldo's boots. People like you make me like Barcelona less - I might start supporting Espanyol...because they are the people's club

Sad thing is about this Barcate.. he doesn't really know what he's talking about.

I really feel like we've gotten off on the wrong foot here. I was wrong to say he probably won't go out on loan a second season, but to suggest there is no place for him at Barca is wrong as well.

Jason doesn't mention anything on totalBarca but I imagine Gerardo has to chat with someone.

Fine, he's going to go out on loan for a second season. Are you happy now? I already said the comment was made more out of anger than personally knowing, I just feel he won't from what I've heard.
