Gerard Deulofeu - Once a Blue, always a Blue

I think the point of most Everton fans, having watched Barca a little in La Liga and the Champions League, is that he is far from the level of Messi and Neymar and not as good as Pedro, Sanchez, Tello, and is Afellay still there? Point being, long-term, I think, and I'm in the majority, that it would be better for Barca to give him another season here. He's still very raw, and to be honest, can't see him holding down a starting spot until next season earliest, if he is still here.

He is already better than Tello. Tello is a trier but the stereotype of a one-trick pony. I have a soft spot for him as he is from the same town that most of my friends here are from, but we all know he is very unlikely to have a long term future at the club.

Afellay actually came on last week in the cup and is now being used from the bench, got a great reception from the fans when he came on against Levante as it has been so long since he was last seen in a Barca shirt. I quite liked him when he first came, but zero idea how he will fare now.

The most exciting about the idea of having Deulo another season is that, if he really starts to fulfill his potential we will be in for a real treat.

Yeah, spot on. We've missed that outlook he provides and getting focused on the times he's made the wrong call when in their final third is missing the point that just his presence provides us with space.

Now that McGeady is getting to full fitness I find myself missing him less.

Not that I wouldn't want him back, but I don't think it's as dire of a situation compared to when he first got injured. It'll be good to have him off the bench, possibly Cup start against Swansea.

(I'm assuming Swansea will put out a pretty weak side and focus on their first league of Europa 4 days afterwards, but perhaps I shouldn't jinx us.)

Don't think McGeady will be ready to influence games for 90 minutes for a little while, yet. Certainly he mostly drifted out of the villa game.

He'll be great for us next season probably but might not make much of an impact, this.

Very true, he did fade out against Villa, but I've watched Deulofeu fade out when he's had the start too.

The two are made for each other, start McGeady for 60 min, bring in Delboy for the last 30 xD.

Or vice versa. I don't really care.

Deulofeu gives us a directness we've sorely missed. I thought McGeady might provide that, but he's been very pedestrian so far (it's very early, obviously).

I think the skillful part of his game is harder to do when not at a decent level of fitness, your body is too slow to react to the things you want to do in your head. Those spinning turns and all that stuff will be in full effect once McGeady I fully match fit.

Think your slightly overestimating him if you think he will get a game for Barca, from what I have seen he is very wasteful and clumsy, he is still way to raw to be anywhere near the Barca first team.

Absolutely he's raw, he is only 19 after all...But I've seen his qualities for several years now, he always ends up dominating every level he's played on...That, for me, is the mark of a special player and I continue to see a special player

In fairness, who is on the level of Neymar & Messi anyway?

Pedro wasn't much of a goalscorer when he first came onto the 1st team, he was a distributor who could play out wide...It's also a big reason why he isn't consistently a goal threat because he's less direct than Neymar, Leo or even Tello & Deulofeu...Same could apply to Alexis...And as I mentioned in an earlier post, I am convinced 1 if not 2 of our forward players will be playing elsewhere next season

Tello is more than just a one trick pony but while he has great pace, he struggles to dribble through those parked buses like Deulofeu can

I believe he'd get as many if not more minutes than he's gotten with Everton this season

Afellay is a player I really like but he's had the misfortune of being injured at the worst times...Anyone who can elevate their game in a Clasico is Barcelona quality and Ibi is, IMHO...He's not a forward, however...His versatility as a winger/midfielder means he can play anywhere from DM to attacking mid, CAM or winger...I don't believe he will be an issue for Deulofeu due to where they will play or how they would be used...Of course, this is assuming Afellay is still at Barcelona next season (I hope he is)

I don't think he has to be a starter though, he just needs to provide a direct goal threat off the bench...Someone to attack the goal instead of showing impotence

My point being that this happens at Barcelona more than it does at any club in Europe, that young players get a chance to show their quality with the 1st team and if they succeed, are promoted...We will see but while I was uncertain before, I feel very confident of his return this summer...A return, mind you, that I did not envision happening so soon last season or the one before...I felt he still had a long way to go in his game, mainly the tracking back & defensive aspects of his game

The key bit there is if they succeed. Personally, I think Deulofeu is a lot more likely to succeed in the first team squad at Barcelona after two years over here than one.

Mate, I 'supported' Juventus, then Real, then Man U then real again then Bayern then Real then Milan then Porto then Barca then Milan again then Barca then Inter then Barca and now Bayern.

So I've witnessed far more glory than you, tbf.

I mean I've never actually been to any of their games cos I live in another country but I feel like choosing a team I'll never see play and writing that I have on the internet allows me to bask in their success anyway.

14 European Cups I've seen my teams win in the last 15 years, beat that.

My response was to the poster who assumed I was a gloryhunter...I've never changed my allegiance to the club I support from the first time I went to the Camp Nou in 1999 - I had already fallen in love with the city but the club clinched it for me

Absolutely, if...Some do (Messi, Puyol, Xavi, Iniesta, Pedro, Busquets etc.) and some don't (Jeffren, Bojan, Fontas, Dos Santos etc.)...But they do it at the club, not on loan

I cannot wait to have Deulofeu back.

We've missed him badly at times since he's been injured and the team has looked a little short of goal-threat as Lukaku's gone off the boil.

If he's stays fit and available for the last 1/3 of the season I have no doubt that he will play a massive role in challenging the teams above us. Imagine McGeady giving all his trickery over 60 minutes and then Gerard coming on for the last 30(+5). No fullback is going to live with that.

There is of course the examples of Fabregas and Pique though, who did have important development over here for several years which made them into better players than they probably would have been if they have stayed at the club.
