Gerard Deulofeu - Once a Blue, always a Blue

2 assists for a winger. Still absolutely awful. Pienaar/Barry/Osman/Naismith too slow. McGeady needs to start vs WHU.

Back on topic. I'd start Deulofeu and go something like this

Wont work...the ball wont stick up front. Perhaps Mcgeady will be ok at that but we havent seen enough yet.

Pienaar, whilst he is a squad option and even in poor form, is essential to how we play. Mirallas in the centre has poor control and awful decision making.

If no Pienaar then Osman has to play. This is just how it is until we upgrade the attack.

I'd say Deulofeu's definitely moved above Ross in regards getting on the pitch, not sure McGeady deserves a start yet though. Ossie played well yesterday so I doubt he'll be dropped so who should he replace, Kev or Pienaar?
Pienaar's stats aren't great but he rarely gives the ball away. People say his partnership with Baines isn't as good as it was but that's because we are stronger in other areas (the emergence of Coleman for instance). I think the way Pienaar & Baines can work the ball into dangerous areas is still vital to us so for me, Deulofeu needs to get in ahead of sexy Kev if he wants to start.

We would have no-one who will run at the defence. Look at Liverpools start here. Its amazing how fast they are going forward. It sounds silly but pace plays a big part.

naismiths played well but he hardly ever runs with the ball. Its like hes scared of it. Maybe Pienaar for McGeady. One of Pienaar or Osman will worm themselves back in.

No offence but getting in players just because of pace, whilst dropping our only link between midfield and attack, is a tactical error. Watch the end of the Spurs game, nothing stayed up front. Just players like Kev running head down and losing possession.

Them lot have attackers who also can control the ball in tight positions, link the play and attack with pace. Kev cannot play in the hole as he is not very good with his back to goal, controlling when tightly marked or in his decision making.

For now, until we improve our attack with new signings, Pienaar or Osman will be in the team.

If Pienaar is critical to how we play, i think that's proof we should drop him. We don't score enough goals or create enough chances and Pienaar has a crap number of assists/goals this year.

Fair point.
Drop Mirallas because hes been overrated since day one by our fans, just like Donovan was. McGeady or deulofeu will actually run at the defence and stick Pienaar or osman behind the forward.

Oh he definitely doesn't play enough defence-splitting passes and hardly ever shoots, but then again nobody in the squad does that. He needs replacing, but not by any player we currently have in the squad.

What he does do is link the play, control the ball and turn his man and put us on the front foot. Kev or Deulo don't do this, it's not really their game. Kev wastes a lot more possession than Pienaar and gets a lot less stick.

I'd be certain Macca and Barry look for Pienaar first when passing forward as he is the one who will control it and hold it up there as the rest of the team get up to support.

@bicyleheader If Only it was that simple. God knows what Martinez is going to do. Need Deulofeu or McGeady to start in my opinion. Not afraid to have a shot.

Still catching up with all the posts...

What did Pienaar do wrong on Saturday? Why are people saying he is in poor form?

Osman is getting a few digs too, had a decent game on Saturday I thought...

I agree Deulofeu has to start this weekend, but it would be in place of Kev for me. That chance he missed (half volley from just outside the area) was nothing short of pathetic. Im a huge Kev fan, but for arguably our best player to totally bottle that chance cost us the game imo.

Naismith should start up top - the more I see of him the more impressed I am. Yes, hes not a number 9 and we need a striker, but he wins countless headers and the lad sure can finish.
