As good as Barry was I strongly disagree with this. We've had our fill of ineffective strikers in recent years and before Lukaku arrived last season we were toothless - the difference in our game when he came on at HT at West Ham was massive - and we then hit a slump when he got injured at analfield. Strikers are the most important position in the team and I think we would cope far easier without Barry then a Lukaku type striker.

I agree. The problem I think we have is that although we still need some depth in the midfield (Even if Gibson can stay fit this season)...we lack tremendously in the striking department...its our weakest area...thus affecting our ability to finish teams off imo. Yes we have Kone and Naismith BUT to me this lacks if you compare it to our Fullbacks, Centre Backs, Midfield etc.
Priority should be to ensure we get in a quality striker...unfortunately its probably the most expensive position to bring quality into the team...thus why we lack there given our transfer budgets in the past. We need to change that this season...and it will also imo send out a message to other players/teams if we bring in quality in this position...that we are serious to compete with the top...

That was a fine gesture from Gerry. I was hoping that we could keep him for another year, I think he could've profited much from us and vice versa, but oh well... we still have enough wingers I suppose (Mirallas, McGeady, Osman, Naismith, Pienaar also Oviedo).

yep...that, and the way he tore Stoke a new one
Tbh it was his yellow card against Arsenal that I might remember more from that game.
I knew he had goals in him, good goals too. But for that yellow he sprinted back to stop a break away and had the sense/guts to do the tackle. Up until that point I wasn't sure if he really was a team player at all, was good to see he was.
