Gerard Deulofeu - Once a Blue, always a Blue

Shame it doesn't look like we'll get another season out of him, I think we would have seen a better player with a season of experience, he had some great moments on the pitch but he also showed why he was loaned out; he still needs to improve his decision making and bring a bit more diversity into his dribbling too. Not at all convinced he'll be pushing for a place in the Barca first team any time soon with the players they have but wish him luck getting there, he's still young and has plenty of time to get there.

Good point that, can't have done our reputation any harm as a place to nurture young talent if any opportunities arise with Barca or other clubs.
My sentiments exactly. If we have to loan young talent to provide options or bulk up the squad size, could only be a help, especially at somewhere like Barca.

He'd have to want to go ;)

To me it is one of the side benefits of using foreign loans. With our rather long absence from European football don't think many of the continent's youngsters know anything about Everton and so if we come up in contract discussions we could well get passed over for other names.

However if Gerri, Lancina and Rom go back to their national/club teammates and wax lyrical about our training/coaching/fans and generally about how easy they found it to fit in, especially with there being other youngsters in the squad, think it will help our recruitment.

Fare thee well, gone away.
There's nothing left to say.
Except to say adieu,
To your shirt as blue,
As the water in the bay.
The calling of the Azulgranas,
Spanish wine from far away.
I'm a free-born man of Catalon-I.A.

lol lol lol

hmmm. No. 16 goals 33 games. Wouldn't have finished where we did without lukaku

And if Lukaku was half as good as you think he is we would have finished even higher as he isn't exactly Johnny On The Spot.

As other posters' shave commented, much of Gerald's good work came to nowt because of the big lad's poor positional play.

Deulofeu probably gave me the largest range of emotions of any Everton player this year. He had me pulling my hair out when he would go on one of his blistering dribbles forward before bringing the ball to a dead stop on the edge of the box, doing a couple step-overs and giving the ball away cheaply. Or when he would be on a break and opt to put a weak shot on target rather than putting a teammate through. Or when he would whip in those indecisive cross-shots, basically drilling the ball just wide of the far post so fast that no one but that one Sunderland defender was able to get on the end of one.

Then there were those moments of magic and elation, Emirates, Cardiff, and others I can't remember now. I don't think he was spectacular for us, I don't think he made THAT much of an impact, but his impact is overstated because he looked good doing it. Still I think once he gets the selfishness out of his head, which I imagine will happen quickly at Barcelona, he'll be a world class talent. Thanks for the highlights Del boy, and best of luck.

well in gerard, all the best for the future. you can tell it was him who wrote it because the english used is about par for a young spanish lid. he used blue font so that's okay by me.
