Gerard Deulofeu - Once a Blue, always a Blue

Seeing that my IMOs have been very accurate wrt Deulofeu, you can definitely work the rest out from there

I certainly can mate.

I've just consulted my eldest cat and he's filled me in with the relevant Gerard info (his Bessie is the Ginger Tom from the farm up the road and he's defo ITK)

There's no doubt without him in the squad we're weaker. The fact we've got european footie as well we need all the bodies we can get.

Fair counterpoint. If we were guaranteed the option to buy, then we should take it.
If a player can boost our clubs standing, qualification for europe or even a trophy, then it would be foolish pride and nothing more to refuse their services for a year, we were a better squad for having him about last season, we didnt sign him, we might still in the future, but it was a good move and I loved watching him play

Buying him is completely different, because then he'd be our player

Bringing in a young player as a loanee, who will then stand in the way of our own young players getting a chance, seems completely counter productive.

Might benefit us in the short term but could hurt young player progression in the long term

If he truly is "all that", Barca will never sell him, so we'll basically be babysitting him for a season and some of our own players will be left out in the cold. We should do right by the players we do have under contract than doing something that will ultimately help us very little and help him and Barcelona much more

There is something to be said for the idea that perhaps we don't have anyone ready for the Prem in that position? It could, and I admit I am speculating, cause confidence issues for our young wingers if we put them on the big stage too soon and they get thrashed badly and the crowd turns on them.

In general, I agree that we should focus on our own talent, but if we really don't have an option ready to step up and play on the wings, then we have to bring someone in, and if we believe in our youth, then we probably would rather bring in a loan to cover until the step can be made rather than buy someone and deal with figuring out how to squeeze the younger players into the team when they are ready.

Some players just aren't ready as early as others.

It's a solid case you present. But then again, we thought we were babysitting Rom last season too. Our 3 loanees were instrumental in us qualifying for Europe.

It's not easy to know if a loanee will be an eventual realistic buy until much later on. Perhaps we could loan in delboy again, then bid for him next summer (if he improves). If Barca say no...so be it.

Kennedy is the player who will directly be hurt by him coming in. He'd be taking his spot. All it will do is set back Kennedy for another year when we have an excellent opporunity to properly blood him
