Gerard Deulofeu - Once a Blue, always a Blue

I suspect some of his ego has deflated now Mikey. He may well be a LOT better for the experience of being loaned out twice

Maybe

Or, he might just get his back up about the whole thing

I don't know him personally, so it's not like I can speak for his attitude. All I can comment on is that he didn't seem to change that much at all over the course of last season re his selfishness

There was Newcastle away, which was a marked improvement where he made two goals, but that was it

Either he wasn't being told or he was and he was being told and he was just choosing to ignore it

I just can't believe that at least one member of the coaching didn't bring it up to him at some point

I'd take him back at the end of the year, get him for 12/15mil with Barcelona having a buyback option at 30-35mil for 2 years and then first option after that.

Because of Barca ban, the earliest he can go anywhere is Jan 2016, he'll have 18 months left on his contract at that point.

Don't even think he can stay at Sevilla at the end of this years loan, not that it looks like it is working out for either party at the moment.

Unless he's just not good enough yet. Have you considered that?

I consider that Del Bosque, Martinez, Guardiola, Vilanova & Enrique all know Deulofeu has world class talent...That's pretty good company in my book

His head on the other hand, I have no idea...He's a seemingly self centered & cocky flair player...Yet, I also know he hasn't been a disciplinary case despite having been a dangerous player at every level he's ever played, a class above players his own age...Add to that he's been a player who has resisted big money from poaching clubs for years so that he could succeed at his dream club, hard to imagine a strictly self centered player doing that...I also know he's been lazy in terms of defending in the past but I've seen less of that in the past couple of years

He earned at least a shot with the first team if not only for the fact that the club prides itself on promoting youth players in the first place...Yet, there's a decidedly different approach taken with him compared to others over the last 7 seasons with the first team...Especially when you factor how much expectation there is on him...It's also reasonable to assume he's pretty gutted about being sent out on loan and so perhaps the effort hasn't been there due to having mentally checked out...That's part of the concern I had about Lucho sending him out in the first place, there was always the risk the move could backfire if he failed to respond as hoped

The Europa League this week might explain his absence over the weekend or he may not yet be there 100%, mentally...I'm sure he will bounce back eventually since he's never shown an inability to respond before...I just hope it doesn't push him away from my club

Are any of the other youngsters getting their chance in the first team or have they all been sent back to Barca B? I know that Munir was impressive in preseason but not been following any of the news since. If they are, it would suggest that Deulofeu didn't fit for some reason rather than your new manager isn't willing to give youth a chance.

In some ways it reminds me of Barkley - Moyes never seemed willing to trust him and not sure Hodgson does as he's complained that he gives the ball away too much. Martinez seems far more willing to accept those type of issues with precocious talents.
