Gerard Deulofeu - Once a Blue, always a Blue

Pipe down Mikey.

I was fuming with you at St Mary's but that was the only time he annoyed me.

And on that day the entire team annoyed me except J-Mac if I recall.

He took a lot of unfair stick that day imo.

I was never his biggest fan but I do think he's hugely talented and I'd love us to sign him, I'd pay 12 million for him now if he was available.

Going back to Southampton, the team was dreadful that day but unlike many of our attacking players he never hid and constantly kept trying to make something happen. Others curled up in a shell and never had a go. Ged just came up against one of the best full backs and most under rated players in the league that day in Clyne, who played him like a fiddle and gave as good a performance as I seen off anyone last year.

I honestly don't think playing him at Saints was a good idea just a few days after Villanova had passed away.

He never stops having a go; problem is, his "go" is usually running like a headless chicken into a full back.

I'm with you in that I'd sign him based on potential, but people who wax lyrical about his talent now and what he was like in an Everton shirt are just lying to themselves.

He didn't come back the same player after the injury. He seemed to have lost a bit of pace which was something he really relied on plus he reminded me of Coleman early on when played on the wing when the defender would just drop back and Coleman would keep running into him. I worried then if Coleman could mix it up enough too. Personally I really like him but I got the feeling he wasn't well liked in the dressing room and there's was that cryptic tweet about looking forward to it ending. I also didn't feel he put in a great deal of effort in his last few games.

For all those reasons I never thought he was coming back plus while I personally really like him I also didn't think he was a) good enough or b) works hard enough for Barca, at least not now and expected him to go on loan. Unfortunately I though if he wasn't good enough to play every week for us why would it be any different at Sevilla who are better. He went to too good a team although a team fighting relegation probably wouldn't be able to play a "luxury" player every week either.

I suspect he will be the Spanish Adam Johnson.

For all those reasons I don't think we could offer him the game time but if things still haven't worked out at Sevilla then I'm sure he would probably be on the market for 5m-10m and at that price well worth a gamble even if we had to put in a 25m buy back clause.

I don't think however another loan would suit us. He's too much a liability to be played as anything other than an impact player.
