I'm not up to speed on these rumours as i've been away for the weekend so forgive me but is this clause valid for the entire 4 year deal ? A buy back at any time or is it just for the first 12 months ?

I think it's just a common thing when a Spanish side sells a young player.

Besides, if we did sign Deulofeu and he was playing at a level which would make Barca re-buy him, then that's still good for us as we'll likely be right up at the business end of the table.

I think the last bit of the clause was in his 3rd year. I highly doubt they are arsed about using it!

Why would Deulofeu agree to option 2?
He would sign a contract with Barca knowing that they only want him in order to sell him to the highest bidder? He would only go back to Barca if he thought he was going to get into the team, in my opinion.

I thank that is a very naïve view, Gerry and his agent will already has this in their mind, so if that happened, he would be massively paid for that move.....and would move to a bigger club than us.

The 'buy back' clause (if there is definitely going to be one should we sign him) is a win-win - IF we do sign him and in 2 years time Barcelona want to buy him back for the reported 12million Euros then it means he has been pretty special in those 2 years and we will have doubled our money along with having a great player play for us for 2 seasons. If he isn't very good 6million Euros is not a big loss considering the money we have spent on other players in the past.
