Rather have him 1-2 years after a £3m fee and lose him to Barca than pay more for him to have no buy-back and lose him anyway to a bigger team. We'll make money whatever happens.

It's clear that they rate the guys potential in such extent that they want to avoid a possibility of loosing a potetintially world class home grown. If they get him back it means D-Train has been superb to Everton. Win win situation in that context mate
Saying this is effectively a loan is effectively total bollocks. A loanee would return to their parent club at the end of the loan by default, whereas with a buyback he stays with us by default and the buyback has to be exercised which Barcelona and the player would both have to agree on.
There is (sadly) a gulf between a player who is good enough for Everton and a player good enough for Barcelona. The silver lining of which is that Geri D may fall into our lap. Barcelona have deemed him not good enough for them at this time and it will take a meteoric rise for their opinion to change in the next couple of years.
Yes, but not for 12 million quid.Is right. It's like people think we would be able to stop Barcelona wanting our players!
John Stones doesn't have a Barcelona clause, but if they want him at some point, i'm fairly sure they'd be able to get him. (Transfer ban permitting!)

Didn't we sell Fellaini for way above the amount in his clause?
This is spot on. Also consider that over the next 2 years if we sell him we will
1) get our initial fee repaid in full and
2) Receive an additional 2.2 million pounds per year on top of this. This will be around his wages I imagine, it may even be more than his wages.
So if the worst happens and they sign him back, it would be interesting to consider. 1) We'd have paid no money for him. 2) All his wages will have been covered for the duration. This is the worst case scenario. A free player for 1-2 years.
When you make a loan you generally 1) have to pay a fee up front and 2) have to pay their wages in full. 3) if you want to keep the player pay a fee at the end of it. We only have to do one of the above.
If the best case scenario happens, we will be signing a Spanish International for 2.2 million pounds. This is borderline what teams pay for under 17's in this country. Sterling looks like he's going for 40 million. Is Sterling really 20 times better?
As the above post has mentioned, much like Lukaku there is a middle ground Deulofeu can fall into. He can be a good player for us but still not be good enough to displace either Messi, Suarez or Neymar. Essentially what we are saying is, can a player fall between McGeady and Messi? If so then that's where we hope Deulofeu will be.
OmgWhat is the meaning of this? My comment was valid by all standards known to men. Yer Mar!
Just to clear this up, Barca will likely want him back if he is good enough for their 4 man front 3 rotation, or in other words, can a player fall between McGeady and Pedro? Still, a huge gap that I hope he will, if he signs, fall into.
Otherwise great post![]()
Righto, thanks. His clause had expired on August 15th or something like that. And then Moyes overpaid on deadline day when no clause existed anymore.
