Gerard Deulofeu - Once a Blue, always a Blue

...I said when RM was announced as our new manager that we Evertonians were in for a special new era. So far, (and a ball has not been kicked, I know), things are proceeding as I predicted. In three years time, every giant club in world football will want Roberto as their manager.

my mate who is a gunners fan admires martinez. He was certain wenger will go to psg - he thought wenger goes when SAF goes -
He also wanted martinez to take over in emirates...still thinks so. Talked with him yesterday and he said when wenger goes martinez will take it from there.

HAha - is right laar. If he's come here to build confidence and plays like that, he'll get the Geoff Nulty treatment and get binned off pretty quick. Bags of skill but decision-making is appalling. Come an learn at dE sKoOL oF ScIenZZ, Laar.

Anyway, clearly NOT a 1st team pick, just yet...but I still love the purchase from Robeto.

This. Enormous change for me having someone like this lad warming up to substitute Osman or Mirallas than fcuking Naismith.
It's nice to have players who have the ability to change games even if it is from the bench.

You never know though, last season Coleman wasn't seen as much more than a bench man,but by the end of the season he'd made full back his own.thrilled to see some activity from the club, this deal in particular gives us an insight into how Martinez is viewed by others.not a chance Moyes would have got this deal done, not that he'd have thought to even try possibly.

I remember watching the match last month where he scored two goals against the USA in the U20 World Cup. Little did I know we would be signing him on loan mere weeks later! This one was my favorite.. classy, classy finish.

To be fair though, Moyes and his Scottish connections (Sir Alex in particular) managed to get us Arteta, Howard, Gibson, Jelavic and Neville (plus Saha was alright in patches)...

And he did find Coleman...

Martinez will obviously make use of his Spanish connections so its a bit harsh to say that Moyes wasnt as highly regarded by others - maybe just not in Spain.

I think it was more that he was forced down our throats by Willie McStay who tried to put him Celtic's way when they rejected him.

Stiil and all, I suppose he did take the chance on him. £60K represents probably one of the best ever deals struck in the PL for a player of his quality.

I really hope that the presence of this lad on the training pitch, if he's as good as everyone raves he is, has a positive effect on Barkley.

Based on what I've seen of Barkley he has the potential to be an brilliantly creative player- the presence of a brilliant new tricky player (adding to Pienaar and Mirallas) could really inspire him to develop that part of his game further

Deulofeu, who scored 18 goals for the Catalan giants’ B team last term and made a number of first-team substitute bows, said: “Obviously training at Barcelona is a fantastic experience.
“You train alongside players like Lionel Messi and Andres Iniesta who are clearly some of the best players in the world. To learn from them is a very nice experience. I’m very keen to get started and I’m delighted to be at such a big and historic football club. I really can’t wait to get started. The ECHO understands Barcelona were keen for their talented teenager to head for the blue half of Merseyside instead of his other suitors – which included Liverpool – because they are confident Martinez can further boost his development.

“I’m an attacking player and I can play wide,” he said. “I’m quite quick, quite decent at one-on-one situations and I’m looking forward very much to helping the team.
“The truth is that I follow the Premier League quite a lot. It’s one of the best leagues in the world.I’m really looking forward to meeting my new team-mates and getting started. Obviously I have got a few days holiday coming my way because I have just finished in the Under-20s World Cup but I can’t wait to get started.”
On linking up with his fellow Catalan Martinez, he said: “He did a great job at Wigan and we have spoken on the phone. I look forward to meeting him very soon.

I logged into the Forum this morning and am extremely disappointed as I type this...

Nearly twenty four hours have elapsed since our last signing; come on Bobby...sort it out man!
