Having 8 high quality young players and not many positive responses, seems like a few posters prefer the days of Walter Smith.

Zat -- and I'm not trying to be patronizing when I say this -- have you ever heard the following sentiment expressed:

"You have to be lucky to grow old."

Well, the same thing is true for athletes. "Sometimes, you have to be lucky to develop into a top class footballer."

I think everyone here is happy Everton have collected such incredible young talent. But the truth is, regardless of how much those players have accomplished in their careers, they're still going to have to be lucky to develop into top class players. And Everton are going to have to be lucky for those players to develop into world class players at Goodison Park.

We're all hopeful things will work out, but we've also seen enough of football and life to let things play out in proper time.

Are you suggesting Besic and the others arent good enough already?

Nope, im suggesting that we have a squad of players, some players are young, some players are old, some players play in certain positions, some dont.

When I think of my "best" team, I dont consider ages, Jags and Baines are the first names in.

Im saying that maybe you should focus less on the players age, if anything, its a hindrance, players like Coleman, hes at his peak almost.

Given the choice, would you rather have a squad full of 28 year olds in their peak or a squad full of 19 year olds with potential?

As i said before, theres 12 players either not good enough/injured or over 30 and 10 of them will likely be out of the door in 12 months time.

The 19 year old age you mention is the age of Galloway and if Martinez has a 5 year initial plan he will be 22 as this comes to formulate, the other end of the core is coleman who will be 29. Its clear that having a core of players who fit into this age range is what Martinez is looking for, hes mentioned it several times.

As for your question, id rather have a 'squad of 19-26 year olds with the potential to be top class rather than an average bunch of 28 year olds coming into their peak.

And of those 12 players you mentioned we will "miss" no more than 4 of them, the rest are, as you say, not good enough, so who even cares.

They will all be replaced, its what squads do, they evolve over time, players age and they are replaced, players move on and they are replaced.

Ideally in that core age range.

Are you allergic to established footballers? When Barkley turns 27 do you want him out the door?

Having the young players we do is boss, but the way you talk about them makes it sound like there's no place for anyone above the age of 26. Pirlo even now would come in and run the show for us.

Its clear that the squad left by moyes was on its last legs the only way to compete at the top is to sign younger players as theres no money to spend 30mil on top established playersm

Nobody is advocating that. They want a £10m established player who will come in and make a big impact rather than another £5m player who might turn out to be as good as the player we could've signed for £10m.
