Not sure it's been mentioned yet but his attitude to defending has improved beyond recognition. Three times last night it was clearly noticeable he now appreciates his role isn't just about attacking when he withdrew back to cover a marauding Coleman run. He's always had the ability to beat players at will and create chances but what was holding him back in his first spell was his willingness to work for the team, now with age and experience it's all coming together and he's starting to look a brilliant all round player.

I liked when he chased the player down across our front-line and then followed him down our left side a bit. That allowed Lukaku to stay up-top if we regained the ball, that kind of stuff is what we have not really had at Everton for years. Its the striker that would have been screamed at to chase.....leaving us no out-ball.

To be honest I think all the front four have a responsibility to take turns doing this and it's something we need to work on more. A front four of Lukaku, Barkley, Deulofue plus whoevers on the left are pretty deadly and the higher up the pitch we retain possession the more likely we can create a goalscoring chance.

and he seems to have gotten way better at learning when to pass the ball instead of running into dead ends. Looking like becoming a class player for us

I've noticed he seems to be deliberately trying to force the early ball now, did it for Lukaku's goal against Bournemouth and also tried it a couple other times where it didn't come off. Adding that to his game makes him deadly, if you give him space he sends it in and if you try to play him close he'll dribble around you - nearly impossible to defend a player like that.

I think it was Hoddle who said Barkley should be the one orchestrating the front players when to press and when to stand off.

There was a section just after his goal when he ran from one side of the pitch, to the other and then back again harrying Boro in possesion. Something that you expect to see in Lennon but it was largely missing in Gerard's game prior to this season and even at the start as he lacked fitness.
