In his interview last night Martinez praised Gerard for all the things that Emery said he lacked.

Wonder how much of the improvement is because of Martinez's different management technique (more carrot, less stick), Gerard's own maturity or Emery's tough love ensuring the message got across. Combination of all three probably.

I like how much more philosophical managers on the continent seem to be when it comes to accepting that it hasn't worked out with a player.

Whereas here, you get no respect unless you're coining catchphrases and cutting promos like The Rock (e.g Pellegrini).

I think just because of that vision he has mate. It's so difficult to find players who appreciate when to wait for a run or when to play early for example. With him on the right we are absolutely dependent on giving him the ball on that right hand side.
If he played central he'd always be in the thick of it, always on the ball, always looking to make something happen.

My vote is to leave him where he is whilst he's terrorising everyone.

According to several posters on the FCBarcelona forum he used to play quite a lot on the left for their youth teams before being switched over to the right hand, not a lot of talk about him playing as a number 10.

His pace is such an asset out wide think it would be a shame to move him central, especially when he has the intelligence to move there anyway when he spots a gap like his goal vs Boro.

hes at his best when hes whipping crosses in or getting half a yard on his defender, and coming inside and playing through balls to rom. leave barkley to progress in the middle hes scoring goals and playing well there anyway. ive no doubt he'd be boss on the left the right or in the middle though. boss boss boss
