Gerard Deulofeu

Would be nice if our left side posed even half the threat Deulofeu and Coleman give us.

Yep, even when Baines came on he was isolated big time with no out ball except a couple of infield passes he had to do ( what he done superbly as well ). Should have brought Mirallas on at the same time and that would have given us a threat down that side as well.

some superb movement & switching sides tonight, he tired after around 70 mins...decision-making a fraction more sluggish. We could move him inside, playing deep if we don't wanna sub him out, bringing Kev on for Kone and move Ross forward...he still creates goals even when tiring and the different position will flummox the opposition, we've generally got two def-mids playing so cover should be ok.

kone has been much more likely to score goals than mirallas this season. granted he's had more chances, but he got given the first chance vs watford and took it.

Kone's been a revelation this season, really loving his run. But the last 30 mins tonight was crying out for a Kev-for-Kone sub, some of that direct energetic attacking quality.

Granted the underside of the post incredibly denied us 3 times, but from my view the game was still ours to win and Kone wasn't contributing to that in the final half hour.

i wouldn't have minded him on, but i just think we were playing with such momentum and the game was so fast paced for the last 20 we didn't really want to break it up, it would have only played into their hands - which is fair enough.

Not bringing him on did play into their hands as they ended up scoring first.

Football tactics are risky, no one knows what might've happened with Kev on, but we do know that Kone lost that little bit of wit & sparkle after the hour mark, we could see it when he'd receive the ball and needed a touch every time. That's what was breaking our play up and playing into Palace's hands.

Kev might've just got his head down and shot against the shins of defenders, but the lad deserves a chance as he's looked tidy in his last few sub appearances.

i personally think kone needed to go back to the bench before this game - he hasn't looked as sharp last few games and possibly due to a lot of games after such a long time out. Hard to say that without it seeming a bit knee jerk though.

i think you're right, jack...he's around 32 and as you say had a year+ off with severe injury so it's expecting a lot of him to perform at a high intense level for 90 mins every week. We've seen it with Barry too who's the wrong side of 30.

oh yeah, just realised we're in the Del thread lol i saw him also tire later in the game, but wouldn't wanna necessarily sub him, rather move him to a deeper central position...change the nature of his threat. how did you see it?

kone's done well off the bench this season and won us a few points - he's taken his chances whereas mirallas hasn't - despite people moaning. Mirallas was exceptional last season, carried us and i don't want us to sell him, he's still easily our second best winger - but he hasn't performed. The fans have stuck by him and he hasn't really replied the faith e.g. boro walking straight down the tunnel instead of applauding those that still chant his name.

Anyway, deula is class, he's going to be exhausted for a similar reason to kone given how little he played last year. But he's grown into that class type of player that you just keep on the pitch because he'll win you points. didn't seem like he had a great game, but him and lukaku are utterly devastating. Possibly the most devastating partnership in the league at the moment with silva out injured.
