Gerard Deulofeu

Just had a look again as I have the game on the DVR, slowed down the slow-mo and it's nicked Barry's heel on the way through. Very weak to take an assist off Geri for that

said it yesterday, they didn't give him one for the first goal vs villa "because they thought he was trying to pass it to kone instead of shooting", so when the keeper parried it straight to barkley from his shot it didn't count. laughable explanation when they give that as a barry assist.

Doesnt get the assists for the OGs that his crosses have caused. Joke. He's got a decent number of assists and could clearly have 3/4 more. Mental.

Played well yesterday. Just a massive over-reliance on him to create something. Shame we didn't have anything on the left to mix things up a bit.

I thought he was excellent again.

Every time he got on the ball the excitement was palpable.

I have never experienced this in forty years of going the game.

That's how the stats work, unfortunately. Whoever it comes off last gets the assist - and if it is a deflection/save, it doesn't count (officially). Everybody knows that Del set up that goal though - stats aren't everything unless you're an Opta boffin. And, as I work in the same office as Opta, I can confirm that they are boffins.

I come to praise Geri, not to bury him

Him, Lukaku and Kone are keeping us in the hunt at the moment

The defence are not pulling their weight in comparison to how the attack are playing

So well done Del

(Please stop diving though lad)

We defended well last night but switched off at a vital moment from a cross into the box - which is how we've conceded pretty much every goal this season. That's down to Martinez to sort out on the training field, IMO, and down to the experienced players (like Barry last night) to cut out the silly mistakes.

If teams get crosses in against us, we're always liable to concede.

I agree

I feel bad for the attack though, as they're doing everything right and are being let down by the guys at the back

I agree in principle, but I don't think it's just the defence, particularly. When defending set-pieces it's the responsibility of everybody who is back there. Last night it was Barry (our most experienced player - and a midfielder) who switched off. Stones was his usual self throughout and Mori (although he dived in a bit too quickly at times) made some vital interceptions.
