Gerard Deulofeu

Spot on mate. He's a nightmare for the reasons you say. He can whip in a boss ball if you stand off him but if you get to close he'll skim you with ease. Thats what i love in a winger, makes me really difficult to deal with and we're reaping the benefits, surely he's in double figure assists?

yep, 12 in all comps (9 prem, 3 lg cup) - he's also set up two own goals (v Barnsley and Sunderland) - and the goals he pretty much created for Barkley (vs Villa) and Lukaku (vs RS) don't count in those stats either.

No one else in the squad can cross like he can, or run with the ball like he can.

I can't understand criticism of him at all. Sure, he'll have games where things don't come off, but he's a constant threat in a wide area and that's what you ask of a winger. Greater consistency will come with age for him.
In the fuss and disappointment over last week the quality of his cross for our third did not attract much attention. I think the ball was actually just off the ground when he hit it. Amazing to get a trajectory like that if it was.

That is, in itself, a form of criticism

Criticism doesn't have to be a bad thing. To criticise a player doesn't mean you don't like them or wish them ill, it just means you see a way they could be better

Deulofeu would be better if he were more consistent. It doesn't mean he isn't good now because of that, but it is an area he can improve. There's nothing wrong whatsoever with pointing that out

I think some people need to learn the difference between criticism and "hating" on someone (Not you specifically, but just in general around here, especially when it comes to Del Boy)

For what its worth, I think he's come along massively since he was first here. Still needs to work on some things, most notably the diving, but he's been great for us this season and I look forward to his continued development

But it's undue criticism. He has 8 assists in 12 starts.

When I say consistent, it's more about decision making getting better overall, but even now he's making one or two goalscoring chances every time he plays at the very least, so I don't know what more you'd want from a young winger at this stage of his career.

He has got to be our most frustrating player. We know he possesses all the skills and has a wicked cross but we can only expect say 1 in 5 success ratio. That 1 in 5 ratio is more than enough because he is an assist machine in the sense that the 1 usually leads to a goal. What we as supporters have to realise (same applies to Barkley) is that creating chances is very hard and the failures of assists will obviously outweigh the successes. The failures make them look inconsistent but are they really.

But it's undue criticism.

From most reasonable people on here, he gets very little criticism really

The only thing I have is the diving, which I think isn't undue in the slightest, but aside from that you really don't see me saying anything even remotely critical about him, because there's no real reason to

In his first season, I complained that he was overly selfish and went for glory himself over setting up team mates. This season, he's had loads of assists, so there's clearly been an improvement there. I thusly think my criticism was legitimate. You may disagree

Ultimately, how much of a free pass does he get? With you, it seems he has more rope than others. That doesn't make their criticisms any less valid, it just makes you more forgiving of his mistakes than they are

Different strokes for different folks

I would pretty much always play him (injuries or tiredness aside). Even on his off matches he can create you the winning goal in the last minute.

That said, I'd like to see him with similar determination and ambition to Lukaku (who constantly works to improve his game and has the ambition to become one of the best strikers in the world). For me he can be as good as Ronaldo if he does this

I would say howard is our most frustrating player at the moment.

He doesn't get a free pass from me. He's doing what I want a wide player to do - create chances and be a constant threat.

In his first season yeah, as a 19 year old in a new country starting senior football for the first time, sure, he had a bad patch, particularly after his injury.

Since he's signed this season though, he's been fantastic. I don't know if you have an issue with the odd bad cross or failed through ball, but that's what he's on the pitch to do - if it doesn't come off, oh well, it'll probably come off when he gets the next chance to do it, and he's proven that to be the case so far.

And I think that he is trying these super hard hit through the eye of a needle type crosses with vicious curl to really make it a tap in. Not just easy ones where the attacker still has a fair bit to do. Of course he is bound to over play it at times, he is a tricky winger who loves possession. I am really hoping Wednesday is a big night for him.
