He seems heavier and slower than in his first spell with us. Even when one on one he invariably just runs into the defender, when in his first spell he'd be gliding past FBs or using his quick feet to sidestep them.

....I'm not so sure about him being slower although I do think he's needed games to get up to speed. A couple of times recently he's shown real zip and left a full back in his wake.

A dark day indeed when John "the Alsatian" Terry (h/t @chicoazul) scores on your club in the 98'. BUT...will long remember the look on Del's face as he was sizing up his cross to Funes Mori. Looked like he was thinking "this ball is already in the net, so just stand there and take it you southern scruffs".

His potential is absolutely enormous- could be as good as Ronaldo. Earlier in the season he seemed to be fulfilling this, demanded to be a regular starter rather than substitute. Lately he's dropped off a bit though I would still play him as much as possible as he gets us goals. I think it's part mental - Lukaku tells how his agent told him to stop playing like a woman, and he took note of this, became stronger and his improvement is obvious to see. I think Geri needs a similar change in mental attitude backed up by further physical strength. I'd hate to see him stay at his current level (good though that is). Rascally want to see him best in the world and for us.

His first season he was an unknown quality. Opposition were getting too tight to him so his quick feet allowed him to bypass them like they weren't even there. The problem was, when opponents backed off, or when he beat his man, his end product was quite poor.

This season is totally different. He is a far, far better footballer. Now when opponents back off, he puts in a (more times than not) dangerous delivery. if they get tight to him - Barnsley away, Boro away etc - he beats them and then delivers a dangerous cross.

The lad is absolutely brilliant and, imo, the most talented player at the club.

I just wish he would stop trying to beat players on 97mins away at Chelsea when we are 3-2 up.

That maturity will come though, with age, games and coaching.

Spot on mate. He's a nightmare for the reasons you say. He can whip in a boss ball if you stand off him but if you get to close he'll skim you with ease. Thats what i love in a winger, makes me really difficult to deal with and we're reaping the benefits, surely he's in double figure assists?

People have mentioned he looks to have slowed down a bit, which I think is true but not because he's put on too much bulk or anything.

I think it's part tactics in that Martinez would rather him get on the ball deep and whip in an early cross/pass to Rom, and that he's still wary himself of picking up another hamstring strain like the one he picked up in the summer.

Still, he's boss
