Tim Howard was credited with an assist the day he pumped the ball long against the Barcodes and Rom rounded the keeper to score lol

I know Khal - it's a silly ruling.

A bit like how a tame shot that rolls into the keeper's arms counts as a shot on target, but a shot that hits the woodwork doesn't.

Or how an overhit cross that floats straight to the keeper counts as a 'chance created'...

Has to play every game....assist machine.

Horses for courses Zat.

He played brilliantly against Spurs in a role that isn't his natural position, and if his finishing was just that bit better he'd probably have won us the game.

Against WBA he struggled against four centre halves and never really got into the game even when moved out wide. It happens.

Obviously he got that knock and then didn't start vs Stoke - again, a more physical side and one that playing against probably didn't suit him as much. He'll get plenty of game time this season.

Indeed I do think Ozil is a "top player".

Playing for a top team.

He is a "top player" based on his all round play, not on his "assist" stats.

David Beckham was an "assist machine" for a team which contained, during his tenure, the likes of Eric Cantona, Andy Cole, Dwight York, Teddy Sheringham, Ruud Van Nisteltrooy, Christiano Ronaldo and Wayne Rooney among others.

In short, top class finishers who make the most of the splendid crosses the likes of Beckham can whip in.

How many assists would Del have if he was feeding finishers of that calibre over a sustained period?

Oftentimes the final assist is not even what creates the goal.....it is the very clever, defence splitting pass which makes makes a simple square pass across the goal from the assister for a striker to tap the ball home.

(a good example of this was the goal Kone A scored at the Barcodes season before last.....McGeady made the goal by picking an exquisite pass inside two defenders for Seamus overlapping and he just hit it across to Kone A. Seamus was credited with the assist but Aiden created the goal)

Beckham would have struggled to rack up so many assists if he had been playing in a team with Tony Cascarino or Shola Ameobi leading the line :)

To sum up, the top assist stats tend to lie with players at the top teams.....and that is because those players, good as they are in their own right, have a much better chance of amassing assist stars because of the tyoe of player they are feeding.

When players from Crystal Palace or Deprtivo La Corunna or Torino are leading the assist stats in their respective leagues then truly that will be a remarkable achievement :)

Beckham never played with Ronaldo or Rooney at Man Utd

Sorry, please carry on

Most talented player in this squad by an absolute mile. Seems to need an arm around the shoulder rather than be whacked by the stick and think Koeman could be brilliant for him. Koeman will get him working harder but wont just discard him like Emery did at Servilla. There is noone else in the league who has his combination of pace skill and ability to produce an outstanding through ball or cross. I was against Del playing as a 10 but think it is something I would like to see or see him playing more off Lukaku as part of a two upfront. He created chances for himself throughout preseason purely by closing down defenders and keepers and should have scored against Spurs doing the same thing.

I don't think either Kev or Bolasie deserve to be dropped to make way for him at this particular point in time

Of the three, he's been the least impressive thus far, so if you had to drop one of them I think it'd simply have to be him, especially if Barkley and Rom are both fit to play

I do eventually think that Del will not only be an automatic starter but that he will also deserve to be one, but at the moment I couldn't justify dropping the other two to accomodate him

Exactly! This is the kind of problem all the best clubs have in all of their positions! We have four genuinely great options on the wings because I still rate Lennon too so they're going to have to maintain form or get dropped. Simple!

Because it's not on target, otherwise it would've been a goal? :coffee:

I know what you mean, but to be fair he hasn't really played in his natural position. It's hard to say he wasn't impressive playing as a lone striker, as I highly doubt the others would have been either.

Actually if you read up on it, emery didn't discard him, he said that he was selfish and lacked the mentality he wanted in the team.

If he's been managed by

Pep Guardiola, Luis Enrique, Emery, Del Bosque, and subsequently dropped by all of them, why would Koeman not be onto him if Martinez was?

At one point Tom Cleverly was higher in pecking order than him.

Attitude (Not wanting to be fit)

Not wanting to track back

Not want to play in a team

Are reasons why.

He is our best player most skillful and most exciting on his day but he will never change unless he realises this is his last shot under a new manager as Everton will be best he will get

(Crowd and fans love him and he's said he wants to be here for many years)

He will go down the pecking order again now we have Bolasie and Mirallas on form... Up to him to force his way back in... Will he do it? Time will tell, I think not and personally I would of sold him to Boro.

he should be placed around the striker almost 4-4-2, get him on the ball and give him chances he will make it happen.

Tactically is hard he is a luxury player and bolasie offers more steel. but i heart gerry......

Bolasie "on form"?

He came on as a second half sub against Baggies and admittedly played well.

He started against Stoke and was largely anonymous.

Sorry.....there is nowt we have seen from Bolasie during his years at Palace nor in his game and a bit with us which suggests he should be higher up the pecking order than Del, by some considerable distance the most skilful player we have at the club.

Nor even Lennon if truth be told.

And you would have sold him to Boro lol

Bolasie will be higher up the pecking order all right as Ronald hasn't paid all that dough to have him sit on the bench.

But on all known evidence we have broken our transfer record and simultaneously weakened our attacking threat from the right hand side.

How Everton is that?
