It really is. It's like the idea that possession wins football matches.

No scoring more goals than the opposition wins football matches.

Yip.

You are making my point, Marty.

;)

it's goals that count.

We won a game against Stoke the other week with a goal which had no "assist"

Ross's goal in the first game came direct from a free kick......no assist credited again.

In short, we have gained four points from our two home games without a player of ours having an "assist".

And in our victory at Stoke, Bolasie laid chances on a plate for both Ross and Rom......yet has no "assist" to his name.

But Mason Holgate mishit a shot and Barry scored from it......Mason has an "assist" ;)

:)

I do think we are on the same page. It's just that ultimately while stats don't paint the entire picture they do and I know what you are saying regarding stats maybe not being earned but over the course of a season they do tend to be a good indicator.

....repeating myself, I'm a big fan of this fella. We dearly lacked his creativity last season, Lukaku and the team suffered when he fell out of favour. I fear, though, that his game is not exactly suited the 'inverted' wide role that RK appears to prefer. For me, Deulofeu is more a conventional winger who is at his best with his feet out on the chalk.
Personally I hope he gets played alongside Lukaku in certain games.

Mis-hit that should be, otherwise that describes something that belongs to me when I go to the toilet

Surely Baines gets the assist for the goal against Stoke?

Anyone can fluke an assist occasionally. The players that make the difference are the ones that score/assist regularly.

Mate you don't get an assist if the goal is direct from a set-piece/penalty.

The rule is it's the last person on your team who touches it before the goalscorer.

Even if a cross/pass is deflected by an oppo even if it was on target for said goalscorer, it doesn't count as an assist.

I prefer the fantasy football rules. ;)

Nope.

We have established this before.

An assist is not credited to the player whose shot results in an own goal.

Gerald himself did not receive an "assist" when Smalling put through his own net for the equaliser at Wembley.

Those who have been critical on this forum should be greatful for the likes of Gerry and Mirallas and co. Do you really wanna go back to to the likes of Pembridge, Watson Rooney etc bunch of ugly pox's. And don't get me started on most of our 90s side, ew!

Tim Howard was credited with an assist the day he pumped the ball long against the Barcodes and Rom rounded the keeper to score lol

He is still a kid why would he be surplus to requirements

I am at a loss with some fans as they believe if we sign a player one has to leave
To challenge we need a squad and this talented kid will be at the forefront of it all

I actually know for a fact that now that Boro up until the window closed had all the media stuff set up for a last minute signing that never came through. They also sold Adomah and Reach, their best winger and one of their better youth prospects (and a winger) on deadline day and replaced him with Adama Traore, an unproven winger in the prem who couldnt get into the Villa side. These are all pretty much concrete fact mate, so even if i thought the guy who told me about the deulofeu stuff wasn't honest you can get there with a not too great leap of faith.

With that said I do actually agree with you; think we need to be careful of having a huge squad and five wingers at the club for two positions (assuming brahimi came in and deulofeu didnt go) is a bit ridiculous for a side without europe. indeed the focus has been on quality now, and not in the immediate future, and koeman seems to not be so convinced of Gerry as Martinez was. this might be wrong but he shows body language similar to what he does whenever McCarthy messes up; bit more disappointed than usual, its hard to explain. Nevertheless, I was happy for us to keep Deulofeu and not sign Brahimi if thats what Koeman's plans were, as I think the lad can really go on to prove Ronald wrong! :)

And of course, hopefully i'm completely wrong about Koeman's opinion of Del, as he's boss! ;)
