Gerard Deulofeu

He's got a lot more to his game than step overs mate. Those crosses and through balls he was playing last season were beautiful. He's up there with the best in the league in terms of creating chances. Should certainly be in our first 11 in my opinion.

He should be the first name on the teamsheet IMO.

Football has got to be about inspiration as well as perspiration and Goodison rises to a man and woman when Del picks up the ball on the right and heads toward opposition territory.

It was beyond Bobby's ability but surely to goodness Ronald can organise the defence to be sufficiently solid enough to let Del concern himself more with instigating attacks and playing our strikers in than chasing about "tracking" up and down the wing.

Its not a coincidence that last year Rom went on a goal drought....after Deolufeu stopped playing. He fed him with some fantastic passes in the first half of the season.
The man Allardyce dropped yesterday put £30M on Lukakus asking price last season, not Mr. ASSIST. Mark my words Allardyce will be
sacked before the World Cup group ends, he'll make Henderson captain and may even ask Joey Barton to come and play for him AGAIN.

I just wonder whether Oumar Niasse was bought from stats rather than real life viewing.
Again look at his youTube clip from last season. Just his goals and assists. We are about to drop 40m Euros on a player and have already dropped 25m on another player and neither clips video comes anywhere close. In fact their career highlights don't come anywhere close.

He's inconsistent and gives the ball away too cheaply. I'm not going to lie but he creates chances and it's far easier to develop a player's all round game than teach them that. For an attacking midfielder that's like goal scoring is to strikers. You either have it or you haven't and it is what separates the very top.

1. Messi
2. Suarez
3. Koke
4. Neymar
5. Ronaldo

Top 5 assisters in La Liga last year. Seems to be a pretty good indicator of talent to me.

I don't think that is as accurate an indicator as you would like to believe,

The proof of their talents lie in their all round ability.

If they never had an assist they would still be among the world's great players.

Messi, Suarez and Neymar were "assisting" each other in the main and a high quality supporting cast when they weren't.

Ronaldo had Big Ben and Bale among others assisting his "assist" stats.

Koke had Griezman.

The stats for an "assister" are only as good as the players he is "assisting" and those five had a heck of an advantage over other "assisters".

Bolasie should have had two assists for us when he came on at Baggies....but the chances he created were wasted :(

I like Delofeu but the couple of appearances that hehas made this year he's been crap

I wouldn't say he's been "crap"

I think Kev has comfortably outshone him, but he's looked fine

Big thing for Del is for him to get fully fit and start pinging those fabulous crosses in again

If he gets back to his best, the the rest of the league best look out

I wouldn't describe him as "first name on the team sheet" like others are (If I had to pick a wing pairing at this exact moment, it would be Bolasie and Kev) but I think he has amazing potential. The club just needs to develop him so he can reach that potential. If it does, we've got a player on our hands

The hardest pass in football is the one that leads to a chance being created, that's why the players, especially midfielders, that have the passing ability to open up defences cost top dollar. Assist's normally reflect that. Go back over the last 10 seasons in any major league and look at the top assisters, it's like a who's who of great players.

Yes, sometimes if a good midfielder is playing in an average\poor team they'll create chances that don't get put away as frequently but as a general guide it does indicate ability to create chances, which is what most teams, barring the big clubs, struggle with.

Ozil was top assister by a mile in the Premier Leauge last season, you don't think he's a top player?

David Beckham was an assist machine due to his crossing ability and passing range, Henry used to get tons of assists too. Assists aren't the be all and end all but as a general guide they do indicate talent.

I agree, I would have Bolasie ahead at the moment, more exciting for me. Hopefully it will the be the kick Deulofeu needs, he needs to up his fitness and cut out the little tantrums when someone breathes on him. Koeman deffo won't stand for this. Koeman seems to use him more central at the moment, not really playing him right wing, so I think he's going through a bit of a learning curve at the moment.
