You are quite right about a certain run he had, where he put through two beautifully weighted passes and a couple of snap centres to Lukaku.
But this 'Assist' lark does my head in. A corner that produces a goal IS AN ASSIST, we've just brought 5 defenders up, and a ginger haired
midget gets hit on the back of the head by the ball and scores.............corner- taker gets AN ASSIST. Did you see Messi this weekend pass
to Horse-teeth, Horse-teeth missed a sitter, Now then: Who deserves AN ASSIST, is it Messi for his perfect pass or is it the corner-taker
aiming at 5 tall lads and missing them all. There are so many ways to ASSIST. Liverpool under pressure, Henderson boots the ball upfield
to safety, one of his forward headless chickens runs the ball into the empty net after the goalie, slips over, Henderson ASSIST.
Stevie G. used to take nearly all the deadball situations, to get the ASSISTS, 99% of his passes were put into areas rather than to heads or feet.
Hoddle, Gascoigne, Waddle, Currie, Wilkins (Yes Butch)and of course Johnny Haynes could all ASSIST magnificently.
Yea but none of Gerry's assists came like that. They were all fantastic passes.

I agree stats don't tell the whole story but generally it's a reasonable guide.

Sorry, but this argument is bullcrap. Sure anyone can grab an assist. But the beauty of statistics is that it is comparable, and luck will even out in the end. So a good assister is easy to spot as long as you have a significant sample. Noone gets lucky 7 times during a season to grab an assist in the premier league.

I would avoid playing him as CF though, it doesn't work that well, does it.

He is definitely a good player for us, but no way is he going to be a player for Barcelona again.

1. Messi
2. Suarez
3. Koke
4. Neymar
5. Ronaldo

Top 5 assisters in La Liga last year. Seems to be a pretty good indicator of talent to me.

He could play up top in Spain but not England.

That said I'd like to see him play as a #10 or second striker.

He's a bit of a one trick pony I've always felt, once defenders have figured out the step over thing he's a bit all at sea as he has nothing else in his pocket and he'll have a bit of a sulk.

Hopefully Koeman can pick him up - I imagine half the reason he's stalled is from having Martinez's tongue firmly in his ring piece over his formative years.

He def isn't as good as we all thought, and hasn't progressed much either. Still can't shoot, still can't beat a man more times than he runs the ball out of play, still can't last over an hour. Would love him to come good though.

He's got a lot more to his game than step overs mate. Those crosses and through balls he was playing last season were beautiful. He's up there with the best in the league in terms of creating chances. Should certainly be in our first 11 in my opinion.
