Glasto 2023

I love all the cool kids saying "you can't expect Alex turner to have the sae energy from 20 years ago. He's 37 now" after fifty year old Dave grohl screamed like a maniac for an hour. Guns n roses will smash it tomorrow and a 90 year old Elton John will have a million times more energy in his set on Sunday

There is more depth to the discussion than that though. Elton John and Guns n Roses are at the tail end of their careers. At that point, you absolutely do the set everyone wants you to do because there won't be many (or in Elton John's case any) more left.

AM are developing their sound and trying different things right now, but they have all the time in the world to get to the embarrassing '60-year-olds thinking they're still 25' phase, which I'm sure will be more enjoyable for certain fans.

I do genuinely think they'd be in for criticism if they were still acting like those 20-year-old scallies at this stage though because it wouldn't be authentic - and nobody would care half as much if they hadn't evolved (see any other UK rock band from that era). These days, he plays it like he's up his own arse, because he's probably up his own arse.

Some good points here. I saw them on their first tour, when they were just ' big' through fire sharing. I kind of lost interest to them after their debut, as most of those songs has been floating about for years anyway so never really bothered with any other album from them or any of that UK indie landfill scene, there was so much crap at the time

I have enjoyed their last two albums though, they are obviously copying Gainsborough, Cohen, Cave (well at least trying to last night), but it's better than the outdated lad indie they used to do. They clearly hate it too but are obviously stuck between two different scenes now

That being said, I've watched a few live things they've done since their last two afters and they looked great, but last night they were pretty bad in one way or another. The crowd obv didn't help too, I didn't realise so many people are stuck in 2009

Have to say I'm really enjoying Glasto so far. Given the choices available on IPlayer, I'm not sure I fully understand the concept of continuing to watch something you're clearly not enjoying, and then complaining about it afterwards. I'd much rather switch over to something I do enjoy and indeed have found some fantastic sets, mostly from acts I didn't know existed before this weekend. It's also great for expanding my vocabulary with terms like "poppet" and "blue cheese" :)

Whilst the Foo Fighters were excellent as usual, pride of place from the first day has to go to Pale Waves, who, as it happens, is also ahead in the "poppet" stakes. Loving this thread too so hats off to the OP.;)

If there's one thing I can gripe about it's finding individual sets on catch up on IPlayer. Not checked it today so it may have improved. Also I was looking forward to seeing The Last dinner Party who are playing at 11.30 am today, but it looks as though IPlayer coverage doesn't start until after 12. What's all that about?

They have been adding individual sets and also songs as the day goes on so best to keeping checking whats been added throughout the day.

Awake early due to some jet lag so been on iPlayer to check out a few of the performance/bands from yesterday (just the odd song) for future reference and all that:-

Pale Waves - definitely see why they got some good traction on here yesterday so will be watching more
Couteeners - showing the Arctic Monkeys how to put on a good show despite dodgy vocals
Billy Nomates - cracking voice and quite a quirky performer so will be checking out more of her later
Maisie Peters - a bit bland

Dont think they are on catch up yet but if you missed them then I thoroughly recommend the Young Fathers set. Not seen that much energy in a performance for a long while and certainly a bit “different”.

Off to check who’s playing what and when for today now. Would welcome some left field suggestions?
Nova Twins and The Lathams are sets I will be targeting, both early afternoon.

Failing that, Rick Astley it is mate.

Wunderhorse 12:45 on the Woodies stage are worth checking out

The problem is, they aren't headlining glasto because of their current work.

Add in the complete lack of showmanship or working the crowd, apart from some weird fake American accent saying stuff like "thank you very much" and you can appreciate why it fell flat on its arse.

So I can’t have an opinion then? Got it.

I’m sure you just accepted how Everton played under Lampard then? It’s his team after all.

No, but I don't buy a ticket to an Everton match in 2023 and expect to see the team from 1984/85 either. There's loads of evidence over a number of years now to suggest it isn't the same team. That puts what I see into perspective.
