Goalkeeper issues and who solves them?

Olsen is noticeably better than Pickford. There's simply no disputing that, and Olsen conceding three goals against title contenders Man Utd, at Old Trafford, is NOT evidence to the contrary. The knee-jerking on here, mere days after his excellent performance against Leeds, is astonishing.

Pickford's been given every chance, every indulgence he could possibly ask for. Long after he's proved that he lacks composure and suffers from basic technical deficiencies, he has STILL been given more chances (because we overpaid for him and put him on a monster contract).

Olsen is currently the best keeper at the club.

Is he good enough to be our first choice next season, and in EL / CL games? No, I doubt it. But he is the best we have for now, so he should start.

Pickford's agent needs to be told to find his client a new club.
Most would agree an upgrade on pickers is desirable, but I think its a bit of a stretch to claim that olsen is indisputably better given that he's only played a handful of games, and particularly given his latest performance, which left a lot to be desired.

My boy Odysseas' reaction to all these clowns not named Odysseas being suggested.

Didn’t know anything about Olsen before we signed him. He’s been a pleasant surprise so far. Not much he could do for united’s first two goals but the third was obviously a weak goal to concede. A slip, could happen to anyone and not an issue to do with technique, more conditions and footwear. Think he can be forgiven a slip. He’ll have to put it behind him quickly, if he has more games like Leeds, Pickford could be in trouble. More of the United game and Pickford will be back at number 1 for sure.

He slipped b/c he was wrong footed and timed his split step poorly

It was more than just a slip. It was a goalkeeping error. The ball essentially rolled into the net like a downhill ten footer for par

Donnarumma is the big name there - what's he like with the ball at his fee through? For Pickford's misgivings, his distribution is still a class above most in the Premier League.

As has been said before, the attention paid to Pickford's brainfarts unfortunately detracts from his reaction shot stopping, which is exceptional.

Donnarumma is good at everything.

Pickford is a top keeper who seems to suffer from lapses of concentration and playing to the cameras/crowd.

A keeper needs to inspire confidence in his defence
Unfortunately Pickford has lost the confidence of the defence
Carlo knows he needs to be replaced but RB RW and maybe a CM are more pressing issues
Also a Striker depending on how Kean /King work out
I don’t know much about lkeepers outside the PL with the exception of Donna , Oblak and the Ajax lad who is banned but in the PL Johnstone looks like a good keeper who is getting plenty of practice

I’m sorry but the blame from the United goals rests on the defence. If you give good players free reign of space and time you’ll get burnt. It was absolutely schoolboy stuff.

The mistake free keeper doesn’t seem to exist. Ederson has probably been the best this season but was terrible last season. Pickford has been poor but let’s be honest he’s never been as bad as Allison was against City, he’s never punched the ball outside his area like Leno did. If he’d have done what Lloris did against Liverpool we’d have killed him, that’s the same keeper who tried a cruyff turn in the World Cup final. Martinez dived over two balls against West Ham. Schmeichal dived over Richarlisons pea roller. De Gea lol, Kepa lol, Mendy lol. Olsen’s one slip isn’t suddenly looking so bad is it. Pickford isn’t looking so bad either. All keepers make mistakes.

I think people are being way too hard on Olsen after the Utd game. It was unfortunate and frustrating that he slipped on their third goal but he couldn't do much about the other 2, blaming him for the Fernandes goal is incredibly harsh imo.

Apart from the goals he made a couple of good saves the one from Rashford in particular kept us in the game. The only obvious weakness in Olsen's game seems to be his kicking which has been somewhat inconsistent. If he is good enough to take the number 1 spot long term I simply don't know, what I do know is I'm not giving up on him because he lost his footing once.

The biggest problem we're gonna have in buying a new GK is that the 2 keepers we currently have are both quality, first choice internationals and as much as JP hasn't been great (diplomatic to say the least) for us, finding and being able to get a GK that his definitely better might prove to be more difficult than some people think.
