Yes, it seems like Ronny likes his Wingers to play "inverted" almost.

....yep, it is becoming clearer now that he wants his wide players to get close to the CF. It leaves a space for marauding type full backs which might suit Coleman more than Baines. The other obvious difference is the contribution of the defensive midfielders, Gareth Barry got a nose bleed if he crossed the half way line last season but now finds himself more involved higher up the pitch.

This has an impact on Barkley. Last season he was the only real link between back and front, receiving the ball from the Barry/McCarthy axis and turning defence into attack. He can also get closer to the CF, he needs to be getting himself on the end of things, just like he did with the Bolasie chance.

Only 2 games in, but my views have changed slightly.

Stickleback has done really well, if we dont get another Keeper in it might be a risk, but I really like the fella, Ronny has said we need 3, so lets assume we will get another in.

RB cover, the boy Holgate looks different class, as Ronny says hes made a few mistake but he looks the bizz, the need isnt as great as it was, will Ronny see it that way?

With the boy Holgate shining we defo only need 1 CB at most, somebody that can freaking head a ball would be lovely.

Still think we need somebody with magic in their boots or somebody a bit different to the "stoppers" we have in the middle of the park and somebody to give Ross a rest when needed.

On the wings we are spoilt for choice, really impressed, if the boy Rachid comes in he would be some pretty tasty icing.

But my 100% current need, that we MUST do no matter is somebody up top, for when Roms not available or for to play alongside Rom.

As for outs I would be looking to get rid of The Clev, Niasse, Kone, McGeady and maybe Gibson if im being totally ruthless, but it all depends on which 1s we get in the next week and a bit.

Kone can head a ball, agree about the back up for striker position. I don't want to see kone ever again.

Nice to see that Gibson and cleverly not started so not in Koeman plans

New players in priority order
Striker
Goalkeeper
Right Back
Attacking Midfielder
I don't think we need a Centre Back as long as Browning/Pennington get fit soon also Holgate. I would also move on Gibson and Kone on top of the players who don't have squad numbers. I would keep Cleverley until January when Besic should hopefully be fit and move him on then.

We'll have to wait and see what his style is going to be here. From the teams of his in the past I've seen he's going to look to turn defence into attack very quickly and there'll be less of an emphasis on build up play. That first goal of ours yesterday was the type of move I'd associate with the way Martinez set up to attack: interplay of passes looking to get the right pass to profit from.

Hahahaha, if that was under Martinez it would have still been getting played at the back between Jags and Mori.

You're having a laugh. Scoring from open play was the stamp of his sides...and scoring was never a problem. Relying on a backline of invertebrates was.

I wont allow this in my thread David, I suggest you leave!
Which way do you see this Everton team under Koeman going mate? Is it going to be a bit of pressing and winning the ball higher up the pitch and hoof to avoid that happening to us?

A lot of pressing David, if Lukaku stays, I think he needs to get used to the phrase "Faster Rom" from the touchline, even under El Fraudo we were an actual force on the counter and with the fast tempo Ronny likes to play its only gonna get better. When games are stretched we are gonna destroy teams with our pace up top.

I think he does enjoy the punt, Im honestly not as against it as you, I think the punt has a place in modern football, as long as you have somebody that can make use of it, sadly Rom is not that player yet, but he will be drilled, he will be taught to be.

The main issue we currently have and something we had most of the time under El Fraudo is that player with magic in their boots, your Juan Mata type, Cesc, the type that can unlock 2 banks of 4, we brute forced WBA yesterday, which is a good sign, but sometimes we need that special player in the middle of the park who can just see things. I know Ross has it in his locker, but sometimes hes just not on it and we need somebody else for when thats the case, we have basically relied on Ross for the last 3 years and its a big ask for 1 player, to be the creative force for a whole team, he needs some help.

For now the signs are very promising, the boy Gaz Baz has shocked me no end, ive written him off for the last 2 summers and hes just come back and been utterly boss, again. Get the boy Williams in and we should see less of the stupid crossing goals we concede every week, Jags and Mori are boss at blocking, but sadly neither can head a ball in our OWN box for toffee, which is a surprise cos Mori is a beast in the other box.

Add a bit more quality in a few areas and we can really make a go of it, theres real scope to enter the rest of the season with "our best squad since the 80s" and hopefully we can put that "record 72 points" season to bed once and for all.

...I suspect the move that led up to the chance Lukaku missed might be a clue to how we break. He appears to like the pace and power through the middle that Bolasie can provide in support of Lukaku. I watched some clips of the the other winger we are linked with from Lyon and he's another big lad with a powerful stride on him.

Barkley cant play that role. Two seasons of it underline the fact. He played a killer pass from the halfway line yesterday to release Bolasie. That's where he needs to be. Deeper. Someone will now step into the conversation to say he cant be placed there because he cant offer a ratting performance too. Sorry, I dont buy into that need for him to do that stuff as a specialty. He doesn't need to be flying into challenge that's what Gueye is for and we should be looking for a nice blend alongside him. If Ross can add a bit of positional play to his game and be aware of where he needs to be when we break down going forward then back there is his position.

On the punting side: this has to be done as a last resort when under severe pressure. No team should have that in mind with the ball at their feet and space to step into.

By the way, I've reported your continued use of the term "El Fraudo" and you should be hearing from a mod very soon.

GRASS.

But yeah, ive heard Ronny scoffed at the suggestion that Ross couldnt play deeper, he kinda used the attitude, he will adapt or else.

As ive said, we either need a number 8 or we play Ross as a number 8 and buy a number 10, with any luck we buy BOTH!

And yeah I dont think punting will be a tactics 101, but we will certainly use it more than we did under "** *****".
