Golf 2022....

That might be the longest putt I've ever seen. I've mis hit a driver far shorter than that
And the irony is that the younger generation is so good that he can probably keep bombing them in like that for the next three days and still get beat, in these conditions. It seems like there's someone new emerging in the 20-22 age range every week.

Hovland's par save on 12 was absolutely bonkers. Not every day you see someone make a 4 after taking an unplayable in a bunker because he is that dead up against the lip. Rory seems to be rolling it well on the fuzzy greens - it's always fun to watch PGA Tour regulars try to adjust to the slower, gargantuan greens on the Old Course.

…sad to see the supreme athlete that was Tiger Woods moving so poorly and looking in pain. Can’t fault the man’s commitment to his sport, despite the riches and despite the lows he still plays like the game matters.
Yeah, I honestly think he should call it a day. It's almost like a lap of honour at this stage.
Get fit and then maybe look at the seniors in 3 years or so.
But I think there comes a time when you have to say enough is enough.
I would take the picture on the bridge, take the rest of the year off and see which way the wind blows. He has nothing left to prove.

He won the masters 2 years ago. He can peach a weekend out like no other.

That was before the accident, which was not the same as Hogan's accident. Hogan was back playing in nine months and winning a major championship within sixteen, and that was with far more primitive medical technology for putting Humpty Dumpty back together again.

It took Tiger thirteen months to return to competitive golf, he WD'd the PGA and is currently playing at the level of the non-competitive former champions. I have no doubt that he can play through pain - see U.S. Open, 2008. Tiger also had a lot more miles on the odometer than Hogan at the time of the accident, and getting his back in condition to win that Masters and get back into the top 10 required years and a minor medical miracle.

No one will gainsay his right to play this tournament until age 60, the PGA as long as he likes or the Masters until the tournament committee sends him the dreaded letter. He earned it. Sooner or later, he will probably be competitive in one of them - most likely Augusta. Nicklaus finished T6 at the Masters at age 58. Watson came within a sprinkler head of becoming Champion Golfer of the Year for a sixth time at age 59.

The era of Tiger winning major championships has almost certainly come to a close, though. Father Time won. He claims most golfers earlier these days. The human spine and knees are not meant to do what today's golfers do to them. Even Els has back problems, and that is not the sort of swing to cause them.

I’m annoyed by the coverage.

Woods is the blockbuster name in golf, but he’s so far from contention here, when there’s players on the course who are in touch like Theegala, Dinwiddie, Harrington.

Just boring, it’s like watching a fly die or something. It’s a painful watch.

There are too many players in the Open, especially at St Andrews. 6 hour rounds will ruin the rhythm of any golfer and it therefore dilutes the standard and puts a massive disadvantage on anyone going out later.

Should be a smaller field with half starting on the tenth tee.
