Golf 2022....

Last broadcast for Sir Nick Faldo today. He and Nantz are the voices you hear when you think of watching golf over here. It'll be a bit weird when Augusta comes around in the spring to not have him around.

Amazing story this. Doesn't say so here but how many golfers in history have got a quad 8 on the first hole of an event and gone on to win it? Not many I would suggest. Slaying the field with a 61 in the final round for emphasis. For his first US PGA win and at barely 20 years old.

Backed him at the Open after his third in the Scottish and he performed admirably at St Andrews. Been coming for a while this lad prolific out on the Asian tour. I'm glad I got on board the Tom Typhoon after the third round to make a few shillings out of the weekends golf. He could be a future world number one. He's on a fast track.

What a weird playoff. Have to say Zalatoris putted well when it counted.

Certainly some nerves jangling and some bad decisions potentially made. Can't believe Zalatoris took that long to decide not too hit the ball straight into a wall of compacted mud. Basically, a guy desperate to win after having so many close calls and a guy that obviously was still struggling for confidence, despite playing well this week Straka had missed 6 cuts on the trot.

Really pleased for Zalatoris, seems like a good guy and great to see that emotion at the end.

Yeah, you could tell it was a ten-ton weight pressing down on his shoulders. Likely to be a danger going forward with one under his belt. The entire top ten right now is insanely good, and with their primes ahead of them to boot.

This is another moment where I am wondering whether someone put acid in my coffee. A professional golfer leaves a trail of allegations in his wake, a member of the media repeatedly calls him out about them, and he sues for defamation after taking the Saudi coin?

Not just 'why', but 'why now?'

So, Adam Scott, Spieth, Cameron Young and four of the top ten all within two shots of the lead?

Pretty rare that I watch Saturday when it isn't a major (rare enough that I watch more than the last few holes on Sunday when it isn't a major, really), but I might have to make an exception for this one. I have never liked the short-field events, but if it's going to cough up a leaderboard like that...

RIP Tom Weiskopf, sad to hear he’s passed away at the age of 79! Winner of the 1973 Open at Troon, remember it well as it was one of the first Opens I watched on a colour tv! He had a bit of a temper, but a great golf swing!

Cam Smith taking the LIV $$$$$$s now, Open Champion - Greg Norman will be making the most out of this!

It will be very interesting to see what position Augusta, the USGA and the R&A stake out on this one. I think they're going to hold that the exemption system stands, but we'll see.

Going to be an interesting “vibe” when the two worlds come together at Wentworth next week, particularly after McIlroy’s comments yesterday!

Agusta will let them play, I think the US Open have no power to stop players who are qualified from playing.

Most of the LIV roster are so far down the rankings that its a non issue qualifying for majors.

When exemptions end then they wont get invitations.
