Fantastic final round this week in Memphis. Lucas Glover is not only back from the dead, but in the Ryder Cup discussion after back-to-back wins, this time with a third of the probable Ryder Cup golfers within a few strokes. Cantlay came less than an inch away from salvaging a water ball on the first playoff hole, after having the low round of the tournament to force the playoff.

Have to love how deep the fields are, these days. It's not great television week in, week out (it never is), but on the good weeks it is an excellent watch right now. Glover went to a long putter three months ago and has been on fire ever since. Golfers who can't putt cannot win a golf tournament, because everyone is just so good tee-to-green.

Glovers last 6 tournaments…1st, 1st, MC, 5th, 6th, 4th. Five top tens including back to back wins in six tries is crazy. Dude is on fire, and the flat stick is what won it for him today. This guy’s putting if he keeps it up with someone like Scheffler in the Ryder Cup would be lethal.

Undeniable that Hovland is the best golfer on the planet at the moment. His putter will cool off sooner or later, but the confidence provided by the last two weeks will render him a handful going forward. There's no longer a doubt in his mind that he can deliver under pressure on the biggest stages.

Rahm remains the Player of the Year on the PGA Tour for the same reason as Scheffler last year. Ran off all those early wins and capped it off with Augusta, plus a runner-up finish at the Open. It's like if Secretariat had faded down the stretch at Belmont. No one was catching him anyway.

This Ryder Cup should be a great one. There's not much between Europe's top nine (McIlroy, Rahm, Hovland, Fitzpatrick, Hatton, Fleetwood, Rose, Lowry, Straka) and that of the US. Europe drops off after that, but the format helps. If Donald picks some good horses for the course and makes the most of his lineups, the US could have a very bad time despite Zach Johnson being spoiled for choice.

Zach’s captains picks will be tough. If I were to guess, I think he takes Brooks, Spieth, Morikowa, Young, Fowler, Mccarthy, with Denny getting the last spot because of how great he is on the greens. Still hope Lucas sneaks in though.

I would take Lucas over Denny. I think the first five are fairly brainless, but there may be pressure to not take Brooks. There's the anti-Young contingent out there, and there are arguments for Keegan, Burns and JT.

I am certain I would not take Thomas. That might be a mistake. Lord knows we've seen Poulter have a rubbish year and then murder people in the singles with his putter. Poulter also missed the odd Ryder Cup when out of form. I think that's JT, this year.

Young didn’t have a great year but that’s all relative. Burns winning the match play this year is a feather in his cap. There’s not really a bad decision here, but I agree with JT. He’d be in based on rep and the fact that he’s a good guy to have around rather than form which I generally don’t like. Brooks has to go. I get the LIV thing but he’s been too good to ignore and hasnt been one of the divisive guys like Phil.

Koepka, Morikawa, JT, Fowler, Spieth, and Burns round out team USA. Gotta be disappointing for the guys who missed out, particularly Glover who likely won’t get another chance and form wise deserved to go.

Still, it’s quite a team.

Big call from Johnson to call up Thomas in front of the in form Glover, think i read that Thomas has missed 5 out of his last 8 cuts. Meanwhile Glover’s recent firm is probably second only to Hovland :coffee:!
Still a strong team though, hopefully be a great Ryder Cup!

Can only think Johnson wants to keep JT and Spieth together given their history.

I think it'll be a great cup. The home advantage will be an equalizer for the perceived difference in depth, and Europe's top guys are every bit as good as the American top guys.

Europes chances could well come down to the form during the week of McIlroy, Hovland and Rahm, then looking to Fitzpatrick and maybe Hatton to pick up a point or two!
No doubt America have a stronger 1-12, but it’ll be interesting to see how the course is set up and who it suits best!
