Unbelievable mental strength to get over the line with such a large lead, he looked unfazed as well.
He lack of length proved his friend this week. His strategy was akin to Tiger’s back in 06. Play back from the bunkers, that Rory and all the bombers tried to hit over, allied to a putting performance that was up there with Speith in his time. Not maybe the most popular but a fully deserving winner.

His putting was unbelievable, didn’t 3 putt all weekend and only missed one inside 10ft, I believe.

Yeah mate. One putt inside 10 feet missed this week. If Rory had putted like that he would have won by 10. I really think majors are beginning to become a psychological barrier for Rory to overcome. He came in this week in top form, from his win in Scotland and brought his B game when it mattered most. In saying that he did better than Scheffler, Koepka, Smith, and most of the other top golfers.
Like I said in another post, I thought Harman’s strategy and execution won the day, allied to a brilliant putting display.

It played tougher this week than when Tiger and Rory ate it alive. If someone goes out there and runs up a strokes gained of ten or eleven strokes with the putter in an Open, even average tee-to-green play will render the golfer nearly impossible to beat.

Harman won this thing by going 67-65 on the first two days while draining everything inside ten feet, then just grinding the last two days out.
Take Harman out of the equation and it would have been a great battle with a number of players with a couple of shots of the lead.

Had M.Jordan @250/1 EW top 8, just missed out but had Day @10/1 on the 'Without Harman' market to get a few quid back. Disappointed for Tommy just couldn't seem to sink a put when it mattered. Fair play to Harman an absolute Golfing Machine, anything within 10 foot was a Gimee.

God that’s harsh with Jordan mate. Didn’t realise local knowledge could be so beneficial.

Yep. Best player in the world doesnt mean you win an Open. Best player for 4 days does though.
While the courses on the PGA tour etc. aren't easy, a links course is a completely different kettle of fish with Hoylake being particularly tough.

The narrow fairways, deep and dense rough and the general rubbish weather make it really difficult. The wind and rain today was horrendous out on the back nine.

You've got to be a different kind of golfer.

If Rory could improve his putting, he'd probably comfortably win a major. From tee to green, he's the best golfer in the world in my humble opinion.

The issue is, his putting from within ten feet isn't consistent enough to get those birdies that he needed to win.
I’ve said it before, but I think McIlroy “suffers” from not having a top caddy on his bag! He had his majors success when JP was caddying for him, a good top caddy!
I think he needs someone sometimes to give him a second opinion on putts, and to occasionally tell him to leave the driver in the bag when it’s really not needed - instead he’s got his best mate carrying but you never really see him getting involved!

Scottie Scheffler is the best tee to green by a mile. His putting is even worse than McIlroy's.

I’ve thought this often enough mate. Had Rory had Steve Williams or Joe la Cava on his bag when he got rid of JP instead of his mate, I’ve no doubt it would have made a difference in majors he’s narrowly missed out on. You only have to look at the impact on the career of Scheffler’s when he changed his caddy and got an experienced one on his bag.

European Women’s tour player player Carlota Ciganda disqualified from Evian Championship over slow play, not the first time she has been picked out for it!
She refused to sign her card after having a two shot penalty added for slow play.
In windy conditions rounds were taking nearly six hours which is clearly ridiculous.

Wonder when officials on the Men’s tour will have the bottle to do anything about five and half hour plus rounds!
