Indeed. As for Woods, undoubtably one of the best ever. But it is, or was, a complaint from other players that many non major courses were set up for him. Sponsors and all that. 3 pros have told me that, but they are cool with it, cos Tiger winning and them finishing after a cut made decent coin for them anyrate.
"Tiger-proofing" also gave him a substantial advantage at the majors, IMO. It restricted the competition to the players that boomed it, and more or less retired the old guard. The alternative of limiting the equipment to reduce the advantage of the long hitters existed, but that wasn't in the interest of the equipment manufacturers, so it didn't happen.

Now, he wins majors by the bucket load either way during his first run, when he was untouchable if his putter showed up that week.

Never knew that, and to me, it doesn't really make sense as it's not like he played a different course to everyone else. Interesting if it is true, as I'd like to know how the courses differed to suit his game specifically.

I think you're right on the money side, he elevated the game to a different level. I feel like had he been at the Open this week, the atmosphere would have been well better as there's a buzz around him when he is there.

I dont know the game well enough mate. But they were unsolicited comments back in the day. But I can certainly see the attraction for ABC Bank Ltd having access to Woods cos he won their tournament. And like you say, a generation of golfers get the big bucks on the back 0f his profile.

That lead with 18 holes to go, in what the forecast suggests will be poor conditions, looks very different than it did this morning.

Play U.S. Open golf, fairways and greens, lean on that putter and make Rahm shoot 65 or Young shoot 66 just to get into a playoff. If one gets hot, attack the par-5s. If not, just grind home.

Pretty much this. Found it strange. Here is a guy who can smash it. I know let's make the courses longer and really make it difficult for the shorter hitters. I think the biggest casualty at the time was Faldo. He wasn't the force he was when Woods was starting. But the longer and tricked up courses stopped him in his tracks.
I think i remember him basically calling it done before he was even 40. Apart from the odd tournament and a decent show or 2 in the links course majors.

A wonderful recovery shot there. It'll be interesting how he performs on the back nine because, from experience, the holes are far less unforgiving.

And it's far more open in terms of the wind and rain coming in, whereas the first nine are more protected from the elements.
His flat stick has been hard carrying him all week, both when he scrambles and when putting for birdie. The questions on the table are whether he retains it when the proceedings get real, and if anyone can get close enough to apply the pressure.

I'd love Fleetwood to get close, but I can't see a five shot swing at the moment because I feel Harman has enough to be steady and get enough pars.
