Yep, he wasn't spectacular but he stuck at it and limited his mistakes. That's a big step for him for the 1st round.

He'll need a round though where he's making the easy 6-8ft Putts and if he can do that, come Saturday he'll be in with a shout.

Some great golf getting played, Max Homa with a beautiful front 9, 3 birdies, 6 pars.
Yeah, seems like whoever wins will need at least one strong round to do it. Homa and Hojgaard look like they'll go low, which should mean too many players out front for a collapse at the top. The trailing pack will have to hunt them down.

The late afternoon wind has been insane. Links course/Pebble Beach stuff. I'm stunned some of the guys who started late will finish in the sixties.

Yeah definitely feels a bit Pebble Beach doesn't it lol crazy winds and swirling from all sides, you can hear it in the mics how loud it is.

Some quality golf getting played in these conditions.

He didn't play his way out of it on day one, and looked looser than I've seen him at Augusta in a while. It's a step in the right direction.

The guys that have reached three and four under playing their entire rounds in this wind are playing some golf.

The Masters is in his head.

Definitely looked a lot calmer. Bringing Butch Harmon in could be the difference, not just for his approach play but for the mental block he has at that place.

Still think Scheffler is just a machine at the moment and should really win at a canter. The guy just doesn't make any mistakes, but if McIlroy can be, at least, within a couple of shots going into the final round, who knows. It could finally be his time.

Touch around the green is still absolutely majestic
He's hitting it OK by today's standards, but he is still a monster in close.

Until proven otherwise, I will think that the Bataan Death March expression on his face means that he's contending to break the cut record. The goal is surviving four rounds to pick up a paycheck.

Did the Scottie Scheffler first round leader bet at the Texas Open last week and the Masters.
Hit 65 in Texas but was beaten out by Taylor Moore's 64. And Sheffs 66 on a tough Augusta day was taken down by De Chambles 65  Pair of baastardos.

It's absolutely not fair now that Scheffler can putt.

If he can keep putting well we can see him go on a Tiger-like tear over the next few years.

Still hoping Rory pulls it together though. He just made a bad mental error on his 3rd shot on 5. That's essentially playing like a par 5 anyway so just don't do anything stupid there, but he did

I type this and two minutes later Rory makes a great up and down for bogey, and Scottie 3 putts from 25 feet.

lol
