I dropped the weights down to get form absolutely perfect, which seemed to work for all of about two weeks, tried going back up weights wise with good form and now just seems to do nothing. I'm the strongest I've been ever, but no actual gains as far as I can tell. Diet is diabolical as per usual, probably what's up really, just can't be bothered addressing it. I suspect I'm bigger than when we last saw each other, I just can't tell the difference.

Yeah I've been focussing on my form a lot, it seems to have helped. I'm stronger on my back and my shoulders than I have ever been but my chest is still isn't quite up to my best. I can shoulder press 22kg dumbells no problem now, which is great for me.

Since about October I've massively changed my diet. I've cut out all chocolate, crisps, biscuits (I let myself have a day off once every 2 or 3 weeks or so) and replaced all that with nuts, berries and dried fruit, when I want a snack. It's definitely made a big difference. And I really don't miss that stuff that much.

Haha

Any change to your work outs? More energy etc....

What about weight loss, any change or if any?

Nope my work outs remain the same - but I've burnt a shed load of belly fat....I'm probably down to about 10-9% body fat now. A few more weeks and I would be comfortable showing off my abs on Formby beach.

*makes mental note to buy speedo's and a frisbee.

oooh oooh coconuts!

Interesting. Most of my training is lactate threshold stuff at around 290-300 watts for an hour, which is around the 5w/kg mark. It's designed to stimulate an alpine climb.

Cripes, are you sure about those numbers? 300watts/hr sounds incredibly high for maximum energy expenditure, never mind LT threshold..

My own calculation for a "regular run" is that I weight 74kg and, running @ 10km/hr = 817kcal/hr = 101w/hr, so my watt/kg output is 101/74 = 1.36, which is right near the bottom end of those charts. To expend 300w/hr I'd have to go nearly 30km/hr (ie run a marathon in 1hr 20m)!

As an aside, I spoke to my other half about this yesterday. She wondered on the health affects of this diet? She mentioned (half tongue in cheek) that cavemen weren't exactly healthy individuals, but also that a high protein/fat diet would put a lot of stress on the liver.

I've heard similar worries, especially regarding the extra work that your kidneys have to do. A few points - 1, all low-carb diets stress the importance of drink enough water so that your kidneys can work efficiently. 2, As mentioned, I think high-fat is superior to high-protein, and this diet should place less stress on the kidneys. 3, I haven't seen any correlating studies showing liver problems linked to low-carb, but there ARE numerous studies that have show correlated health benefits from low-carb living regarding trigylceride/LDL levels, blood pressure, and some other health-barometers beside body mass.

Aye, she probably meant kidney rather than liver. We were on a date so I didn't pursue it too vigorously

Re the power figures, I'm basing it off of my turbo rather than a powertap style device, so there may be a bit of deviance, I don't know. From the research I've done, people that have used my turbo alongside a powertap reveal it to be reasonably accurate so long as you just get on and ride it and don't mess with perceived resistance levels. We're talking within a few percent accuracy, which I can deal with I think. All comparing like with like I suppose, so improvements are still valid.

That is on a bike though so I'm sure it varies compared to running. In terms of speed, that works out at around 41/42km/hr or thereabouts, and it burns around 1080 calories (based upon (watts/1000)*time in seconds)

Ha saves me looking for this thread.

Starting detox today. Got 12kg to lose to get to my target weight. Went shopping today and it was heartbreaking to walk past the crisps aisle.

it's a bit of a pain having to forego the nice treats and stuff like crisps and snacks

but unless there's gonna be some sort of ban on monster munch, or dominos pizza shortage, then these things are still gonna be there when it comes 'round to the time for me to treat myself, and I'll enjoy it all the more when I do

that usually keeps me motivated mate

A good point well presented.

I quit smoking from 15 a day without any sort of aid, so I should have the willpower to not be a fat tucker.
