I've been enjoying the leg press machine lately. It's one of them where you put the pin in the weights and when you push it moves the seat back. Managed 10 x 180kg but that sounds quite a lot doesn't it? It doesn't say kg but everything else in the gym is kg. As I'm pushing the seat rather than the actual weights would body weight affect how much I'm actually lifting?

Generally the leg press is for bodybuilders who are too lazy to squat.

The pitfall of the machine is that people tend to be quad dominant, and the leg press accentuates this imbalance all the more.

energy

You've got to save your energy for the big sets mate, otherwise you could gas out mid workout and not be able to finish. Sounds like you were very sensible to me

Mind you where was your cool down? I'd have done some light sets to finish off with a muffin, followed by some stretching and general cool down in the lavy before heading home.

Christ mate, I'm not an amateur, finished off the workout by getting back to the car park, sat there for 20 minutes so I didn't have to spend more than I had to on a ticket, took a stroll to the shop and got a Twix and then casually walked into work an hour after my lunch break finished, cool as you like, and ate my Twix. Obviously downed a Lucozade original as well, I'm no mug.

All in all I've probably done a weeks worth of workout today, but I'll still do it all again tomorrow, that's just the kind of meathead I am.

Hardcore! PFT none of those poncho rest and recovery days for you Bungy. Good use of some post workout energy replacement with the Lucozade too

The whole it's in the mind thing is often a load of rubbish, there are plenty of people who train much harder than more successful sports people. It's a factor, but it's one of many.

In strength and power related sports it's often how well the top guys respond to stimuli, whether that's drugs or a particular training regimen.

Stracqualursi for example, despite all of his effort is still tosh compared to Berbatov. And that's despite Burbatovs utter laziness.

Well of course genetics and god-given talent are crucial as well, but hard work will beat talent that doesn't work hard.

I could do with losing probably about 4 stone, but just can't find the motivation to start.

I'm hardly the one to give advice and it awful to start, but if you eat a lot of carbs ( bread, pasta, pastie etc) cut that out for a week and see what happens. I've been carb free (99% anyway ) and shed 4 stone ( I think ) in just about 2 years ( very little exercise) you'll probably do that quicker of you combine it with swimming or walking etc
