So I've been going the gym for just over a week and I've already grown 2 new veins and a new ab lodged in between 2 of my old abs.

After Christmas I had to change something in my life as I was approaching 17 stone. So I joined the gym & been going after work for a half hour run (around 5k each time) 3 times a week. I made a few other sacrifices like stopping the sugar I used to have in my tea/coffee and I've managed to loose a stone so far.
I'm well happy with results up to now but don't half miss a chippy tea haha.

That's ace that mate. Keep going mate.

Brill that mate, well in.

The program on BBC 2 right now is about placebos and their effect on the body. One woman needed cement in one of her vertebrae but was given a placebo instead (she entered the trail but thought she was getting the real deal). Couldn't walk before, now fit as a fiddle. Crazy stuff.

Just watched it myself.
In a way I am not surprised. 90% of everything is in the mind. Even at the top end, that extra few percent that separates the very best is not their physical attributes but what is in their mind.

What was really fascinating was the woman who knew she was taking a placebo but showed benefits anyway. Her mind just needed something - anything - real medication or otherwise.

Having said that you DEFINITELY wouldn't not pull a wisdom tooth out of me without some serious anethestic injections.

My housemate is a rugby coach and is really into the mental side of exercise. Says its easily 70% mental and 30% physical when exercising or playing sport. I wish i was a bit mentally stronger like that, give up way too easily.

The whole it's in the mind thing is often a load of rubbish, there are plenty of people who train much harder than more successful sports people. It's a factor, but it's one of many.

In strength and power related sports it's often how well the top guys respond to stimuli, whether that's drugs or a particular training regimen.

Stracqualursi for example, despite all of his effort is still tosh compared to Berbatov. And that's despite Burbatovs utter laziness.

How many curls did you get out of the spoon before your set was done bungle? Good pump.

Did a bit of a warm up with a Double Cheeseburger, there was a fair bit of weight in it so possibly lifting a bit to much as a starting weight, but powered through that. Took on some fluids (Chocolate Milkshake) and had a little break, then probably did a solid 20 curls on the McFlurry, really committed workout today.

As a precautionary measure and so as not to injure myself before I did the workout I drove round there and went in the Drive Thru rather than walk, it's right to have the body at it's peak and be in the right frame of mind before taking on a challenge like that.

I've been enjoying the leg press machine lately. It's one of them where you put the pin in the weights and when you push it moves the seat back. Managed 10 x 180kg but that sounds quite a lot doesn't it? It doesn't say kg but everything else in the gym is kg. As I'm pushing the seat rather than the actual weights would body weight affect how much I'm actually lifting?

energy

You've got to save your energy for the big sets mate, otherwise you could gas out mid workout and not be able to finish. Sounds like you were very sensible to me

Mind you where was your cool down? I'd have done some light sets to finish off with a muffin, followed by some stretching and general cool down in the lavy before heading home.
