Continental 4000s. I know they're not 'winter' tyres, but have never had any problems with them over the last 4-5 years of using them. This year has been a stinker though. So much crud on the roads, which coupled with the dampness seems to make it puncture ville. Only been out four times and have picked up six punctures

Think I'll stick to the turbo until May :D

I do most my riding on single lane roads which turn to crap in the winter and ive only had 2 slow punctures in 12 months. Im running gatorskins and I cant speak highly enough of them.

On another note Bruce, when you go abroad do you drive down, rent or take your bike in a bike box/bag? Ive booked flights to Caracassone, not quite sure how i should go about transporting the velo.

Aye, I should probably get some sturdier tyres for winter. I've been riding my 'summer' bike as well, which again, probably isn't ideal. Hey ho :)

Re the travel, I've done both. Taken bikes on both planes to Italy before and the train down to Grenoble. It's all doable but is a bit of a faff lugging it about (and hoping the baggage handlers treat her well).

The last few times we've been to Italy though we've driven there, and will drive to Nauders this summer. For doing a week of riding about with a granfondo chucked in I like this option as not only does it give you flexibility when you're there (for registering or going out for rides further afield) but it also lets you take more stuff with you. Bike pumps, cleaning kit etc. It's always nice to give the old girl a spruce up before the big day so she doesn't feel bad next to the pimped up Italian floozies

I'm not impressed with Continentals. - I've had two of their tyres suffer sidewall failure on me within the space of a few months. This is a shame as they seem a good tyre otherwise, but I think they need to look at their quality control.

The idea that you need different tyres for winter is absurd imo (just another gimmick to make you spend more)!

Have really been stepping up my training in the last couple of weeks.
Yesterday had 3 sessions - 2x skate and 1x 90min run.

Knackered today - 3 mile recovery jog this morning felt more like a 10k.

So I'm contemplating entering my first Amateur Strongman competition. There is an event being help in Ellesmere Port at the end of April which consists of the following:

Farmers Walk: 100kg x 20m for time (as assume it is 100kg per arm).
Log Press: 80kg for reps over 75 seconds
Dead Lift: 180kg for reps over 60 seconds
Yoke: 220kg x 20m for time
Kettlebell hold: 20kg at arms length forward hold for time
Stone over Yoke: 100kg Atlas stone to 52" height, 75 second limit.

Anyone else in to this style of training?

One of my friends entered her first strongwoman event at the weekend. It was quite interesting following her training over the last few weeks, she even had a session with Laurence Shahlaei. She loved it so much she's already booked her next one so get on it mate and just treat the first one as a learning experience.

Me and the wife have started the men's and women's Canadian Air Force fitness program (5BX and XBX respectively).

The idea is that you build fitness up gradually rather than go for Olympic standards of training. It's ideal for folk who are busy and tight on time, and are generally not gym-goers.

Going ok so far. My mum and dad did it years ago to good effect. George Burns did it and got to 100!

Nice!

I just proposed that to the gf as she wants to shed some weight and stuff.

Personally I haven't been on a run in about 3-4 days cuz I've had loads of things to do and wasn't feeling well, but I'm restarting tomorrow cuz I have a half-free day...

Although I didn't originally intend to, it seems that I'm slowly building a home gym.

Treadmill is a success, free weights and bench on the way, with a pull up bar too. Helps having a big garage, looking forward to setting it all up.

71.3kg this morning (24.6 BMI)

That's approximately 10% of my pre-programme weight I've shed. Just a couple more kg to go until target is reached. Want to get to <70kg for my solo race in June, which will involve a lot of hill climping, so power/weight will be a big factor.

Hope everyone is doing well!
