The poor sleep will be a major contributing factor mate, seriously. Lids underplay the importance of it. I've been stressed at work and stuff lately so not sleeping too well and it has so many bad side effects on your life, including energy for training.
Cup of black coffee half an hour before the gym usually helps though.
@Bruce Wayne @Walken yeah I guess you're right about exhaustion. I'm a crap sleeper but don't think that's the prob. Have had some of my best swims after a crap night's sleep. I guess it must be the extra hours at work.
What would you recommend to get the energy back? I usually try to do 2x swim and 2x gym (nowt strenuous, just 30 min circuit workout) per week. Maybe stay out of the pool for a couple of weeks and then start again?
I forget exactly where now, but I read about a study into this, and the general gist was that caffeine before a workout generally made no difference at all. Caffeine after the workout was very effective however, as it gave a bit of a jolt to the recovery and adaption process.

Your studies find all sort of stuff in fairness though Wayne, and some of them ever find out that the tories aren't so bad at all!
I'll stick to my personal experience thanks and a good cup of strong black coffee with two sweeteners gets me going for a workout, loads of others too.

Aye, there have been plenty to suggest necking some coffee before a workout does good too so hard to go too far wrong I should think.
In Czech visiting the in laws at the moment so probably won't get much riding in at all for the next 10 days or so. Might try and rent a bike a few times and bugger off for a bit.

When is your next cycling trip?
Thought about it but we're staying with her grandpa and his place isn't really big enough to have a bike (and box) cluttering the place up. Trip to Austria is in the 2nd half of June, so will have a couple of months to lose the dumplings and get into cracking shape.
I'm off to the gym now, I wish I could get down to even double your body fat percentage ffs.
