As I said, I know how it works, know its benefit etc and know how the body reacts to it after heavy training.

I'd just prefer not to be putting stuff into my body, where there has been no long term research done into its effects. As in, in 20 years time.

Arsene Wenger started using it as soon as he took over at Arsenal. How long ago was that?

In all honesty why not? If they're from a reputable source? Before anyone says anything lets remember Tesco where selling people Ukrainian donkeys recently.

A person who exercises regularly and doesn't go to excess with steroids will in the main be much healthier and look better than someone who doesn't.

Is there a risk involved in mis-use? Would the average Joe know enough to use it safely?

Being a nob doesn't suit you.

To be honest, I'd have taken anything to give me a hand today. Went over the Stelvio alright, taking around 8 minutes off my previous best, but the Ofenpass was a real grind. Didn't feel good at all. Managed to crawl home in around 6h45m in the end, so not too bad, but it sure was hard work.

I did try creatine a while back after some probably dodgy advice from a bloke down the gym. Not sure it does much for endurance athletes?

Steroid use is massive and widespread. Has been for 30 years or so now I'd say. I haven't seen any massive trends associated with it. Plus the lifestyle lends itself to avoiding certain other things that have an poor health outcome.

It does have some uses. Recovery being one. The benefits would be less obvious than other disciplines though.

It doesn't really compared to others. The main benefit is muscle growth as a result of explosive exercise like strength training.
